Description

Patented May 15, 1923.
UNITED;- STATES PATENT oracle.
MORRIS Y. NEEDLEVOF WASHINGTON, nIsrRIo'ror ooLuivI IA, AssIGNoR or o E- HALF r0 MAX MOSKOWITZ, or WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
CLEANING COMPOSITION.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, MORRIS Y. NEEDLE, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cleaning Compositions, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a cleaning composition and is more articularly adapted for cleaning gloves made from dressed or undressed skins.
The objects of the invention are to produce a composition which is adapted to clean gloves made from skins, that will quickly, easily and most effectively remove all perspiration stains, spots or dirt from all parts of the gloves without shrinkage or the slightest injury or discoloration of the glove, although of the most delicate texture and color, and at the same time preserve, or restore the original condition of the pores of the skins from which said gloves are made.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the detailed description of the manner of compounding and using the same to be hereinafter given.
The invention consists in the improved cleaning compositions hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, and which is made up of the following ingredients, preferably in the proportions named Ounces. Powdered zinc oxide 5 Aqua ammonia (25% solution) 5 Magnesia (magnesium carbonate) 8 Neats-foot oil 2 Alcohol (wood or grain) 1 The foregoing constituents and proportions will produce about one pound of the cleaning composition and are mixed in the following manner: I
The zinc oxide and magnesia are thoroughly mixed together so that said substances form a homogeneous powdered mixture. The alcohol and neats-foot oil are then agitated together and after thoroughly mixed, said mixture of zinc oxide and magnesia is gradually introduced into the solution of alcohol and neats-foot oil while stirring said solution.
After the zinc oxide, magnesia, alcohol and neats-foot oil have thus been thoroughly stirred into a homogeneous mixture,
Application filed November 16, 1921. Serial No. 515,593.
the ammonia is gradually introduced into.
The manner of using and best applying the herein described composition is to mix or dissolve one pound of the composition into fifteen gallons of gasoline or benzine and then place said solution of composition and gasoline with seventy-five pairs of gloves to be cleaned preferably in a rotary tumbler or rumble as is commonly used in cleaning establishments, and rotate the same until the cleaning composition has thoroughly permeated and repeatedly passed through the entire skin of the gloves. After this operation, said gloves areremoved from the tumbler and dried inv any suitable centrifugal or other drying machine, or by hanging them in dry air, when said gloves will be found to be thoroughly cleaned and have the original form and size, color, texture, pliability and softness of new gloves.
The herein described composition can be used for cleaning all kinds and colors of gloves of the character indicated and capable of taking out all grease, dirt or perspiration spots or stains, and alsopermeates uniformly and thoroughly through the body and all sections of the glove, and in so doing imparts or restores to the gloves a newness and freshness with-out shrinking or distorting them or leaving any odor, mark or discoloration upon the same or injuring them in any way, and the pores of the skins of which the gloves are made are evenly and properly filled in such a manner as to have the appearance of new gloves, and the powder or any of the ingredients used in the cleaning composition are not set free, de-
posited or rubbed off on any wearing ap-- parel or other object coming in contact with said gloves after being cleaned as described.
The proportions herein indicated have,
generally been found to secure the best re-o sults, but under some conditions they may be slightly varied without departing from the essential features and scope of the invention. I
What I claim is 1. A cleaning composition comprising zinc oxide, aqua, ammonia, magnesium carbonate, and neats-foot oil.
2. A cleaning composition comprising zinc oxide,- aqua. ammonia, magnesium carbonate, neats-footoil and alcohol.
3. A cleaning composition comprising zinc oxide five ounces aqua ammonia five ounces, magnesium carbonate three ounces, neats-i oot oil two ounces and alcohol one ounce. v
I Tn testimony whereof I afiix my signature. I '-MORRIS Y; NEEDLE.
