narran stares instan PATENT @FFME ALBERT S. LANGBEIN, OF PHILADELPHA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO W.
KLINGER & LANGBEIN CO., OF PHLADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORA- TION OF PENNSYLVANA FISHERMANS FLY BOOK.
Application filed January 22, 1921. Serial No. 439,087. i
To all whom 'it mag/concern: v l
Be it known that I, ALBERT S. LANGBEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, lhave invented a new and useful F ishermans Fly Book, of which the following Ais a specification.
My invention consists of a book adapted to contain a iishermans flies or bait, the same l0 comp-rising covers, a fly receiving box, a supplemental fly receiving pocket, and a sheet for drying and cleansing the iiies, vsaid box, pocket and sheet being connected with the respective parts of the hook and adapted to be folded parallel and flat within said covers when the book is closed, means being also provided for preventing the book from opening and thereby retaining the flies' in their respective places, and all of the parts are adapted to form a compact package convenient for handling and transportation, and when opened affords convenient access to the iies.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and described, as long as they are within thevspirit or scope of the claim.
Figure l represents a perspective view of a fishermans Hy book in open condition.
Figure 2 represents a face view of the drying and cleansing sheet employed.
Figure 3 represents a transverse section of the book in closed condition.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings.
1 and 2 designate the covers of the book, and 3 the back bone portion thereof, the same being formed of suitable flexible material, the cover 2 being adapted to be folded over the cover 1 when the book is in closed condition.
Connected with the inner side of the cover 1 is the fly containing box 4 which is formed of suitable metal or other suitable material and comprises the body 5 and the lid 6, the
latter having a surrounding flange to embrace the open side of the box, said body having therein a series of partitions 7 which provide said body with separate compartments 8 adapted t'o contain flies for fishing purposes which when vsaid lid is closed, are
prevented from dropping out of thebox either at the top ortheir sides which latter are closed.
`rihe bottom of the box is connected firmly with the cover 1 by rivets or other suitable means, so that said box is movable with said cover in opening `and closing the book.
Connected with theinte'rior of the back bone portion 3 of the book are the parallel ypockets 9 each of` which is formed of 'sheets of transparent and water proof material, open at the top and closed at their ends and bottoni, and a closing flap 10 said vpockets being adapted to contain flies which can beand connected at theirbends with the back bone portion 3 by the fasteners 14 which are passed through` said portion and bend rand clinched on the inner side of the latter after the manner of a paper fastener, vsee Figure 3, said fasteners 12 being of the order of said fasteners 14.
As shown in Figure 3, the cover 2 isfextended around the book towards the back and further extended as a Hap which over laps the cover 1 and rests upon the same. Then said cover 1 and the overlapping flap of the ,cover 2 areprovided with devices 15 preferably of the order of. snap fastenings` which when engaged are adapted to retain said covers in closed position and prevent the book from improper opening.
When the book is closed the box 4, the
pockets 9 and the absorbent sheets 13 are folded parallel with each other in the book and all inclosed in the covers and back bone portion, the-covers being secured bythe fastenings 15, the lid 6 of the box being retained in closed condition against f 13 designates sheetsof textile fabric of absorbent nature, the same beingwdoubled the pockets 9 and the latter having their inlets closed by the laps l0 which rest against the bodies of said pockets, whereby the fly-contents of the latter and said boi; are prevented from Idropping` vout ot' the same at their tops and all of the members are held irmly together l'ormingg a flat and compact package which may be readily carried. When the book is closed7 the box l owingto its rigidity serves to sustain the pliable pockets and sheets of -.absorbent fabric in flat condition against each other and to stiften the book when so closed against improper bending,A while also preserving the compact nature ot the device without sc vVerity` lWhen the `flies are required, the covers are disconnected and 'opened when the box7 pockets and sheets are presented to view, as shown in Figure l. The lid 6 and Haps 10 maynow be opened when the Vflies are accessible 'for the selection of the latter therefrom. After the -fiies have been used t ey are placed between the sheets 13 which absorb the moisture of the flies and dry them when they may be returned into their respect-ive places. Then the cover l is restored to its normal position carrying with itthe boi; 4land folding the latter against the pockets 9 when the several pockets and sheets are pressed together parallel with each other and said box. rlheii the cover 2 is folded over the cover l, and the two covers are fastened and thus a closed package is formed as shown in Figure 3 with the advantages hereinbeitore stated.`
lf desired, each of the compartments 8 of the box #i may have its own lid, one of which is shown open in dotted lines Figure l, in stead of all or' said compartments having a lid common to them, as shown full iii said ig'ure, without, however, produciiig` different results" only that each type of flies would be kept distinct from the others, and one kind of liies would be accessible without y opening;v the other lids.
'iavinp; thus described my invention what i cla-im as new and desire to secure by Letters. Patent, is: n A
A bool; oit the character stated consistiiigiv ot t'oldable covers, a box formed of rigr materiel connected with one otsaid cov said box having` a covering lid, a pochet formed el? duplicate waterproof sheets one of which is transparert` a closing; liep 'for said pocket7 said pocket being; located parallel wth said cover, means :tor securing said pocket to the backbone of the bookn a sheet of absorbent `fabric parallel with said pocln et and beine` secured to said backbone7 said covers beine' adapted to inclose said. boxn pocket and sheetsy and a 'Hap on one ot said covers adaptedfto overlap the other cover and to be secured in closed position` thereto.
