G. J. PRAT CHIMNEY DRAFT DEVICE Filed April 27. 1921 Patented May 8, 1923.,
i matter GEORGES JULES FEAT, OF PARIS, FRANCE.
CHIMNEY DRAFT DEVICE.
Application filed April 27, 1921. Serial No. 464,947.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonons JULns PHAT, citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Paris, France, 146 Avenue des Champs Elysees, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chimney Draft Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to facilitate the mounting and dismounting of the rotors of fans employed for producing mechanical draft in chimneys. The inven. tion is characterized by the discharge-spiral of the fan being secured, on the outside or on the inside, to the wall of the chimney,
and the rotor and its shaftsupported on a frame which is movable in relation to the chimney. This frame is also adapted to carry the mechanism through which the drive is transmitted to the rotor.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the base of the chimney stack in which the fan is mounted; and Figure 2 a partial view shewing the rotor dismounted.
The collector or delivery spiral b of the fan for producing the draft-either by suction or ejector action-is secured permanently in the wall a of the chimney. The rotor 0, provided with vanes g, is supported by a frame (Z, which is preferably guided on slides e secured to the ground. This frame bears against the wall a of the chimney, the joint being secured by a flanged ring 7 by means of bolts, or in any other similar way, the rotor then occupying its proper po. i-' tion within the spiral.
As is known. the spiral of a fan needs but little attention whereas the rotor, together with its vanes and other moving parts, often needs frequent inspection and repair. My invention enables these opera tions to be performed without having to undertake the delicate task of dismounting the entire fan in relation to the chimney as, all that is necessary to get at the rotor, is to release the bolts, or other means by which the ring 7 is secured, and the bolts which fasten the frame on the slides, and to withdraw the rotor from operative position I am aware that rotary fans have already been constructed in which the rotor is independent from the casing and is adapted to be withdrawn therefrom but what I consider novel is the assemblage of the discharge spiral of such a fan in the wall of a chimney with mechanical draft.
Vhat I claim is: '1. In combination, a chimney, a discharge spiral secured in said chimney, a fan rotor arranged in said spiral, and means wholly supporting said rotor independently of said chimney. I
2. In combination, a chimney, a discharge spiral secured in said chimney, a fan rotor arranged in said spiral, and means Wholly supporting said rotor independently of said chimney and permitting withdrawal of said rotor from said spiral.-
Tn combination, a chimney, a discharge spiral secured in said chimney, a fan rotor arranged in said spiral, and means arranged externally of said chimney and wholly supporting said rotor independently of said chimney.
4:. In combination, a chimney, a discharge spiral secured in said chimney, a fan rotor arranged in said spiral,'and means arranged externally of said chimney and wholly supporting said rotor independently of said chimney and permitting withdrawal of said rotor from said spiral. 1
In combination, a chimney, a discharge spiral secured in said chimney, and a rotor movable axially through the spiral.
6. In combination, a chimney, a discharge spiral secured in said. chimney, afan rotor arranged in said. spiral. and means'wholly supporting said rotor independently of said chimney. and permitting the axial withdrawal of said rotor from said spiral.
'7. In combination, a chimney, a rotor ar ranged in said chimney, stationary slides arranged externally of said chimney, and cured to said chimney and arranged at one supporting means for said rotor movably side of the rotor to provide a closed joint mounted in said slides whereby said rotor between the latter and said chimney, and 10 may be withdrawn from said chimney. means supporting said rotor independently 8. In combination, a chimney, a spiral of said ring.
