Application filed. March 20, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DENNIS LEE Dovnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Anderson, in the county of Anderson and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clearers for the Middle Steel Rollers of Spinning Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to spmnmg machines, and has for one of its objects to pro- ,vide a simply constructed attachment whereby the middle steel rollers of machines of this character and similar machines, are kept free from accumulations of foreign matter, and the rovings prevented from winding upon the rollers.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claim, and in the drawings illustra tive of the preferred embodiment of the invention:-
Figure 1 is an end elevation of the improved device applied to the middle steel roller of a conventional spinning frame, with rollers and the support for the attachment in transverse section.
Fig 2 is a detached perspective view of the improved device.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4: is an end elevation of the head or bearing member of the improved device.
Fig. 5 is an end elevation of one of the supporting brackets, and connecting bars, of the improved device.
The improved device is designed for use in connection with middle steel rollers of spinning frames to prevent the roving from winding around the roll and likewise to prevent the accumulation of dust and other foreign matter on the rollers.
The improved device comprises a head member 10, preferably of hard wood and corresponding substantially in length with the middle steel roll on which it operates, the latter represented conventionally at 11. The head member is formed with one face Serial No. 545,132.
concaved to conform to the curvature of the roller with which it is to operate, and the concaved portion lined with yieldable material such as felt, flannel cloth or the like and indicated at 12. i
Attached to the under face of the member 10 are depending arms 13, each with a hold- 1 ing belt 14: therethrough near its free end.
The arms 13 are spaced from the ends of the head members 10, as shown.
Attached to some stationary portion of' the spinning frame with which the device is operative, for instance to the bottom creel represented conventionally at 15, are bracket devices 16, each being secured to the creel member by attaching screws 17', and each provided with a holding or clamp bolt 18 v near the free end.
Connecting the arms 13 and the brackets 16 are bars 19, each longitudinally slotted as shown at 20, to receive the clamp bolts 14 and 18, and thus provide the requisite ad-. justments of the member 10. relative to the middle steel roller 11 and the supporting creel 15. v j
The bars 19 are bent at 21 so that the head member 10 may be adjusted toward or away from the middle steel roller 11 and likewise adjusted toward and away from the creel 15.
By this simple arrangement the head may be readily adjusted to middle steel rollers of various sizes and to creels'of varying sizes. The device is simple in construction, can be formed from any suitable material and of suitable strength to withstand the strain to which it will be subjected.
The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification, but it will be understood that modifications within the scope,
of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing'from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any arms depending from said head member to receive holding bolts, bracket devices adaptarms and the slot of the remaining portion ed to be attached to a stationary support of the bar to adjustably engage the bolt of 10 and provided with a holding bolt, bars longithe bracket.
