J. BRUNELLI CLOTH PRESSING AND STEAMING DEVICE Filed Aug. 22 1921 I avwemtoz Jkms Brunellz' 351 Ms GIT 0144 Patented May 1, 1923 1,453,433 UNITED SATES PATENTOFFICEt CLOTH PRESSTNG AND STEAHING DEVICE.
Application filed August 22, 1921. Serial No. 4a4,soe.'
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs BRUNELLI, a
citizen of Italy, and residing at Brookl n,"
class which may be used in connection with any kind or class of cloth, but which is particularly designed for use inconnection with what is known as Marvella cloth, Duvetine cloth, velvet, plush and similar cloths or material having -a fuzzy nap or finish; and
with these and other objects in view the invention consists in a device or ap aratus of the class s cified, constructed an operated as hereina ter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accom panying drawin forms a part, in which the separate parts 0 my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a top plan view of my'improved steam pressing device, with part of the construction broken away;
Fig. 2 a side view of the main framework thereof with part of the construction in section; and,
Fig. 3 a sectionalview of a detail of the construction thereof.
In reduein my invention to practical form I provi e a yoke-shaped frame a in which is mounted a brush roller 12 and with the open ends of the sides of which is con: nected as shown at a a steam casing or receptacle 0 which, in the construction shown,
is triangular in cross section and one of the V-shaped corners thereof is directed downwardly, and the side 0 thereof which is directed toward the roller 6 is provided with steam ports or passages c as is also the top part of the side 0 thereof opposite the side a.
The closed side of the yoke-shaped frame a is provided with a handle a and in connection with the frame a and the steam. casing or receptacle 0 I provide an attachmentd comprising a flexible coupling (Z which is adapted to be connected withone end of the I steam casing or receptacle 0 in the usual manner as indicated at (i and with which is connected a flexible steam pipe (1* having a coupling member d of the usual form and construction, and by means of which the pipe 01* may be connected to any suitable source ofsteam supply.
The pipe 03 is also divided central] or at any predetermined point therein, an set into said pipe is a short coupling pipe d which is secured in the pipe (1* by flexible couplings d in the usual manner, and the pipe at is provided with a small'tubular drainoutlet d with which is connected or may be connected a flexible drain pipe (1 by meansof which the water of condensation may be drawn off into a suitable receptacle during the operation of the device or apparatus.
The roller 1) is composed of a central core 12 of wood or any other suitable material and mounted thereon is a covering or enclosing wire brush like member I)? composed of a flexible sheet 6' in which the wire bristles b are secured. I
The covering or enclosing element b of the roller 6 is an article of manufacture, and is used for man purposes, and in itself it forms no part 0 my invention but, in practice, the inner sheet I) thereof may be composed of rubber, leather, or a combinat on of canvas or other fibrous substance with other material such as cardboard or the like,
and the wire bristles may be secured therein in the ordinary or any desired way, and wlll be of sufficient rigidity to form a pressmg roller. The desired result may be accomplished by a comparatively close arrangement of the wire bristles.
-The use of my improved steam presser will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connectlon with the accompanying drawing and the following statement. In ordinary practice, the attachment d, or the pipe (Z thereof 1s connected, as hereinbefore stated, with any ordinary or preferred steam supply device which will be provided with a valve in the usual manner, and the frame a with the roller I) mounted therein is manipulated by the handle a in the same manner as in other devices of this class but, in this operation, the roller 1) turns on or over the material which; is being operated upon instead of sliding thereon or thereover, as in the case 'of ordinary flat-irons, and 1n this opera tion steam is admitted into the steam casing or receptacle 0 and is discharged onto the goods which arebelng pressed directly in front of the roller through the perforations in the casing or receptacle 0.
lit will be understood from the foregoing description that the chief ob ect of my 1nvention is to properly and effectually press goods having a fuzzy'or simllar fibrous finish so that said finish will not be pressed down and made glossy, or deprived of itsoriginal finish, and this "operation may be performed on the goods before they are made up, or in the ordinary operation of pressing garments made of such goods, but in addition to using my improved steam presser in connection with goods of the class specified, either in'cloth form or when made up into garments my improved steam presser may also be used in connection with ordinary woolen cloth, either before or after it is made into garments.
It will also be understood that while I have shown and described certain details of construction for carrying my invention into effect and also have described ordinary wire for use as bristles, it will be understood that other material may be substltuted, for wire, and other changes in and modifications of the details of construction herein shown and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my 1nvent1on or sacrificing its advantages.
