A further object of the invention is to provide in a head gate a gate comprising a plurality of slidably connected sections each separably shiftable, the sections having a water tight joint with one another` and with the head gate frame and being graduated as to size so that the ilow of water may be adjusted to any desired volume.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in readily7 installed, durable an-d efficient in service and a general improvement in the art.
These and other objects I attain by the construction and arrangement shown in the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1() indicates a frame preferably formed of angle iron in U shape, having the bight 11 of the U arranged downwardly and the arms 12 thereof vertically directed. One flange of the angle iron is directed inwardly at the sides of the arm and the edges of the Hange form a slideway for a gate 13. I claim:
1. A head gate comprising a frame, a gate slidable in the frame and comprising a plurality of independently slidable sections, said sections being graduated as to size.
