Ee it known that l, ltioriiinn Soririonoirnn,
manufacturer, a citizen of the German liepublic, residing at Auerbach, Vogtland,
a llerrenwiese 8, Germany, have invented .i Ilm certain new and useful lniprovements in Heat-Exchanging Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My. invention relates to improvements in lo heat exchanging apparatus, and more particularly in apparatus of the type in which the fluid to b-e heated'or cooled is made to' How in contact with and between plates or lamelles placed one beside the other and held at the desired temperature by suitable means. Apparatus of this type is used for .example in cases in which the velocity of ,the fluid dowing between the lamelles or plates is high, and they are used for er ample in connection with frames for drying textile fabrics and drying machines, in which case the apparatus isused for heating air.. The object of the invention is to provide a heat exchanging apparatus of the class referred to in which the fluid is brought in viewV my invention consists in providing 4the plates or lamelles with protubcrances in the form. of lrnobs adapted to deflect the duid in ditferent directions so as to reduce wliirls and to intermngle the particlesof the fluid.. o
l am aware that heretofore the lamelles i of heat exchanging apparatus have' been bent in `zigzag form in order to increase the heat 4eirchanging surface. llowever, l have found that the fluid moves between such .lamelles in uniform and undisturbed flow,
'" ing drawing, in which the same reference characters have been used in all the views .to indicate corresponding parts. ln said' drawing, p
llig. il, is a cross-section of the apparatus taken on the line l-l of Fig., Qt,
lFig. 2, is a longitudinal section taken onv lthe line 2 2 of llig.y l., and
llig. 3, is a detail view partly in section and showing a part of adjacent lamelles.
v jacent lamella.
With this object' ln describing1 the invention reference will be made to an apparatus for heating air.
ln the example shown in the drawing my improved heating apparatus comprises a hlt frame creasing. c having at opposite endsv an inlet c and an outletl d for the heating medium, a pair of partitions c and to f0rniing with the heads g of the casing, chain- .bers for the heating medium, these chambers beingl connected by pipes r, and plates or lamelles l, secured to the pipes r. The lamelles are formed with protuberances jp in the form of knobs and preferably on the opposite side of eacliplate with depressions Q corresponding to the protuberances. As shown the protuberances are spherical in shape, ln the manufacture of the lamelles l prefer to punch the holes required for the passage of the pipes r and to press the protuberances in a single operation. ln assenibling the parts care is taken'that the protuberances of one lamella are in position corresponding to the depressions of the ad- 'lherefore the cross-sectional area of the passage between the lamellae is uniform.
ttl-
rlhe arrows shown in llig. 3 illustrate the formation of the whirls. Theparticles of the duid' meeting a protuberance are deflected towards the adjacent lamella so as to cross the main. flow of the fluid. ln a similar way the particles owing along a depressed portion are thrown against the adjacent lamella.
lf the apparatus is to be `used for heating the air in a room, the topA and bottom of the casing' can be left open.- lf the appara-tus is to be used for heating a current of air to be delivered to a room` or to an enclosed space iii which warm air is to be utilized, for example, for drying, the cold air can be supplied through a casing m from a suitable fan or blower, if desired, the Y heated air being drawn' olf through another casing n., these casings m and u being provided with suitable pipes in the well known manner.
l claim:
A heat exchange apparatus lof the type.
having a plurality of substantially parallel plates pierced by a plurality of substantially parallel pipes at substantially right angles to said plates, the said plates being provided lllh at regular intervals with struck-up portions in the form of parts of spheres, the strucknp portions ol all the plates being simi]arly arranged ou mid plates, unil boing on the same sides of .Quill platos. whereby a given plate is e\e1y\vhore ut substantially the same (list-ance from its neighbor. including' the struck-up portion, the Suid plates being imperforute except as regards the peiforntions
