IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE SHELVES.
Specification forming partof Letters Patent No. 145,251, dated December 2, 1873; application filed October 13, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM J. STEPHEN- soN and DAVID W. STEPHENSON, both of Yellow Springs, Greene county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Shelf Attachment for Stove-Pipes, of which the following is a specification:
Our invention relates to the class of stovepipe shelves which are adapted to revolve upon or around the pipe, and comprises devices whereby such shelves may beset to any desired height or removed from the pipe at will, and a device whereby the space between two shelves may be closed by doors or shutters.
' Figure 1 is an elevation, showing our compound shelf in its lowest position, and having one of its doors partially open. Fig. 2 is a section at the line X X, showing the shelf ele vated. Fig. 3 is a section at the line Y Y. Fig. 4 is an enlarged section at the line XV WV. Fig. 5 is a horizontal section at the line Z Z.
A represents a common stove-pipe, having lugs B, which support a ring, (J, whose upturned tangs enter tubular oblique legs D, and are attached to and support our lower shelf E,
' of the represented octagonal or other polygonal form, having the represented down-turned and folded margins F, and a central aperture, G, for the pipe, supported by bolts H and tubular columns I. On shelf E are one or more shutters, E, which difier from the said lower shelf only in that their bent margins F are left more open, so as to take the hooked upper edges of slidable doors or shutters J. The legs D may be armed with hooks K, for suspending culinary articles. An orifice, a, in pipe receives a bracket, L, which, being temporarily withdrawn and the compound shelf being elevated, is again inserted, and serves to uphold the said shelf in position. (Shown in Fig. 2.)
When desired, the doors J may, one or more of them, be removed, or the entire compound shelf may be unshipped after uncoupling the sections of the pipe.
The removable hook or supporting device L is shown in Fig. 2 as being engaged under the upper shelf but it is evident that it may be applied beneath the lower one, or even under the ring 0, when it is desired.
\Ve claim as new and of our invention--- The combination of lugs B, ring G c, tubular oblique legs D, and two or more compound shelves, E E, having hooked margins F, for sliding and separable doors or shutters J, as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony of which invention we hereunto set our hands.
