Be it known that I, EDWARD. J. MCCOR MACK, a citizen lot the United States, residi ingvin the city and county of San Fran/'cisco and vState of California, have invented a new anduseful Iniprovem'ent in a Collapsible Electric Heater, of which the followng'is' a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in electric heaters wherein a collapsible re.- lector and guard isl provided to enclose a heating element.'
The primary object of my invention is tov provide an improved electric heating device, provided with a collapsible reliector to permitpacking within ay small space.
1 Another object is to provide a heater arranged to be Supported in a horizontal or verticalN position.
A further object is to provide an improved Collapsible guard arranged to be foldedy within a reflector.

A still further object is to .provide a `heater arranged to be supported in a hori- Zontal plane and having an improved guard arranged tosupport a vessel to be heated above the heating element.

any external object, is pivotally connected to the standard 3 and is arranged to be held at any desired inclination thereto'by a wing nut 6.vv In the drawings I have illustrated a spring clamp 4 having a relatively wide range of expansion and operated by a wing nut 6 to permit the clamp to be' rigidly mounted upon any convenient object. r1 he element 1 is connected to a source of electrical energy, not shown, by a connection S.
A plurality of radial sectors 9 are connected tothe base plate 2, by means of suitable hinges 11 arranged tangentially to the periphery of the plate 2 as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, to form a reflector, portions of said plate 2 being bent to form butts for vthe hinges 11 as best shown in Fig. 4 of the dra-wings. Staywires 12 are pivotally connected to the outer edges of thesectors 9 and to a centrally disposed ring 14, which vis Inova-ble axially into andaway Jfrom the reflector. Vhen in the extended position the stays" 12 retain the sectors 9 in position and form a guard in front of the elementl.
The sectors 9 are widened at' their outer ends, the wide partfof each sector 9 being' arranged to overlap the sector adjacent thereto upon' one side,Y and to be overlapped by the adjacent sector upon' the other side,4 in
this manner forming a solid reflecting surface. The stays `12 are arranged t`o move thejsectors 9 outwardly so that the `overlapping edges will be in close Contact and eac-h sector will serve to limit the movement of the adjacent sectoiy, y V
Then it is desired to extend (the rellector into an operative position, the sectors 9 are moved outwardly and the ring'14inoved into engagement with the shoulder 17, the s`tays 1 2v being thereby moved to lie in Tzit-'plane de-` fined by the outer edge of the reflector and Shoulders 19 are formed near the The guard formed by the stays 12 may now be utilized for supporting a vessel, outward movement of the sectors 9 being prevented by the stays 12, and movement of the ring 14 and the stays 12 into the reflector being prevented by the clips 16. Heat from the element 1 will be thrown directly upon the vessel and the contents quickly heated.
When it is desired to fold the reflector, the ends 18 of the clips 16 are pressed inwardly to cause the shoulders 17v to release the ring 14:. The ring 14: may now be moved inwardly into the reflector thereby permitting the stays 12 and the sectors 9 to be moved into the position shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. As the sectors 9 are pressed together the ring 141- will be pressed back overy the clips 16 to its innermost position where it is engaged by the shoulders 19.
As it is necessary for the ring 16 to move outwardly from the reector when the sectors9 are moved to the extended position, the shoulders 19 will normally prevent opening of the reflector until the outer ends are forced outwardly by an operator against the pressure of the clips 16 to move the ring past the shoulders 19.
From the above description itwill be readily seen that I have provided an improved heating device which may be folded to occupy a minimum space which may be utilized for eitherheating a room or for cooking purposes. The device is part-icularly useful while travelling as itmay be folded and readily packed in small space in a trunk or suitcase. where it will be readily laccessible for heating a room. for heating water; orfor doing light cooking. While I have shown the preferred form ofY my invention only, the details of construction are;
, subject to -various modifications without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thusdescribed my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
`1.- A `folding electrical heater comprising I a heating element; a collapsible reflector connected to said element; and means for normally retainingI said reflector in an ex-v tended or foldedfposition.
2.A folding electricalheater comprising ya heating element; a collapsible reflector connected to said element; means for nor- -mally retaining said reflector in an extended or folded position; and means for retainpivotally connected to said heater and adapted for engagement with an article for retaining the heater in a vertical or horizontal position. .i

A folding electrical heater comprising a heating element; a collapsible reflector comprising radial collapsible vsectors hingedly connected to said heater; a collapsible wire guard pivotally connected to said heater and sectors and arranged to be folded and extended with said sectors; and means for normally retaining said sectors and wire guard in an extended position.
5. A folding electrical heater comprising Va heating element; a collapsible reflector comprising radial collapsible sectors hingedly connected to said heater; a collapsible wire guard pivotally connected to said heater and'sectors and arranged to be folded and extended with said sectors; and means for normally retaining said sectors and wire guard in an extended orfolded position; and means for retaining said reflector in a vertical position for heating or a horizontal position for cooking purposes.

A folding electrical heater comprising a heating element; a collapsible reflector comprising a plurality ;of radial sectors hingedly connected to said heater; a collapsible guard; said guard` comprising a centrally disposed ring, and a plurality of stays pivotally connected between the ringv and each sector and arranged to be folded and extended with said sectors; and means for retaining said sectors and guard in an extended or folded position.
7.` A folding electrical heater comprising a'base plate; a heating element mounted upon said plate.: a collapsible reflect-or comprising a plurality o-f radial sectors hingedly connected to the periphery `of thebase plate; a collapsible guard. said guard comprising a centrally disposed ring; `and a plurality of stays pivotally connected between the ringand each sector. and arranged to be folded and extended with said sectors; and means for retaining said sectors and guard in an extended or folded position.

A folding electrical heater comprising a base plate; a heating element mounted upon said plate; a collapsible reflector comprising a. plurality of radial sectors hingedly connected to said base plate tangentially to the periphery thereof; a collapsible guard comprising a centrally disposed ring, and aplurality of stays pivotally connected between the ring and `each sector; arranged to be folded and extended with said sectors; means for retaining said sectors and guard in extended or folded position; and means for retaining said reflector in a Verticall position for heating or in a horizontal position for cooking purposes.
10. In a heating device, a collapsible reflector comprising a plurality or radial seet-ors hingedly connected to enclose a heating element.
11. In a heating device a collapsible reflect-or comprising a plurality of overlapping radial sectors hingedly connected to enclose a'heating element.
12. In a heating device; a collapsible reflector comprising a plurality of radial sectors hingedly connected to said device; and' a collapsible guard comprising a centrally disposed ring and a plurality of stays pivotally connected between said ring and the sectors and arranged to be enclosed within the reflector when collapsed.
13. In a heating device of the character r described having a collapsible reflector; a
guard comprising a centrally disposed ring, and a plurality of stays pivotally mounted between the ring and the reflector to permit axial movement of said ring toward and away from the reflector, for folding and extending said reflector and guard.

A folding heater comprsing a heating element; a colla sible reflector hingedly connected to said fieater; a collapsible guard, said guard comprising a centrally disposed ring and a plurality of stays pivotally connected between the ring and the sectors to permit axial movement of said ring into and away from the reflector for holding and extending said reflector and guard; spring clips mounted upon the heater within the reflector, said clips being provided with shoulders at the inner and outer ends thereof to engage the ring and hold the same in an extendedl or folded position.

A folding heater comprising a heating element; a collapsible reflector hingedly connected to said heater; a collapsible gaurd, said gua-rd comprising a centrally disposed ring and a plurality of stays pivotally connected between the ring and the sectors to permit axial movement of said ring into and away from the reflector for holding and extending said reflector and guard; spring clips mounted uponl the heater within the reflector. said clips being provided with shoulders at the inner and outer ends thereof to engage the ring and hold the same in an extended or folded position; and a suitable clamp pivotally connected to the heater and adapted for engagement with an eX- ternal object to permit adjustment of the inclination of the reflector.
