To all whom it may concern Be'it known that I, OOTAVE GABON, a citizen of the'United States, residing at Faribault, in the county of Rice and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clod Crushers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andeXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in 1o the art to which it appertains to make and usev the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form. a part of this specification.
This invention relates to clod crushers and has for an object to provide a crusher of improved type to attach in the rear of a gang plow to operate upon the turned furrows immediately upon the passage of the plow over so the ground.
A further object of the invention is to provide a clod crusher of the type embodying new and improved features of connection and articulation.

l/Vith these and other objects in view the invention comprises certain novel units, parts, elements, constructions, combinations, mechanical movements and functions, asdisclosed in the'drawings,together with mechanical equivalents thereof as will be hereinafter morefully described and claimed.

A further object of the invention is to plan view of the clod Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The improved clod crusher which forms the subject matter of this application is intended to be associated with gang plows of various makes and types. As shown at Figure 1 a conventional gang plow is disclosed intended for operation by tractor, although it is to be understood that the disclosure is not intended to represent any particular plow, nor is the invention limited in any manner by any disclosure of such plow structure, but is adapted to be used in conjunction with plows of various makes and styles.
To one of the beams, as 10, of one of the plows of the gang the device is attached in any approved manner, as by the bar 11 and clip 12, by which it may be attached to the beam at difierent points along the length of such beam as occasion may make desirable. The device itself comprises a frame made up of the bars 13 and 1 1 rigidly secured together by the castings 15 which also serve to journal the spindles 16 of the knuckle joint terminating in the stub axles 17. Crank arms 18 are carried by this spindle 16 connected by a cross bar 19. The frame at tached to the bar 11 by means of hounds 20 and a bracket 21 is rigidly secured to the bar 19 extending forwardly therefrom and connected by means of a link 22 with another of the plow beanis indicated as 23. It will thus be apparent that any angular movement of the device relative to the plow organization will result in the movement of the spindles 16 in their journals and the consequent steering of the stub axles which carry disks Mounted also upon the frame are bearings 25 journaling spindles 26 having arms 27 extending forwardly and connected with the bar 19 by pins 28 in slots 29. Extending rearwardly from the spindles 26 are also arms 30 arranged in pairs and spaced apart upon opposite sides of the lower frame bar 1a and terminating each in a clevis 31. This clevis 31, as will be noted more especially from Figures 3 and r, is provided with a plurality of recesses vertically spaced with a king pin 32 engaging in any one of said recesses the extremities of bars 33.
Mounted rearwardly of the frame hereinbefore mentioned and normally in parallel ism therewith is a shaft 34 upon which is mounted a plurality of disks 35. Upon the shaft 34 bearings 36 are mounted, the position and arrangement of the bearings 36 and disks 35 being such that thebearings follow normally in the path of travel of the disks 24 and the disks 35 are spaced at these points so that the paths of travel of the disks 24 is between the disks next adjacent the bearings 36. These bearings 36 are connected with the bars 33 by pivot pins 37, preferably employing also braces 38 with pivot pins 39 in alinement with the pins 37 so that the bearings 36 may move pivot-ally relative to the bars 33. This attachment of the braces 38 is brought about by the means of a l..lshaped member 40 rigidly secured to plates 41, whichin turn carry the bearings 36. The height of the U-shaped members 40 is such as to throw the alinement from one to the other of the tops of said iii-shaped members above the tops of the disks to accommodate the bar 42 which-extends transversely across above the shaft 34 and in normal parallelism therewith, and is secured at its extremities to the members 40 by means of the cut-out portions indicated at 43 and bolts 44.
Mounted rigidly but adjustahly upon the bar 42 is a wear-iron 45, such adjustment being accomplished in any approved manner, but preferably by means of collars 46 embracing the bar 42 and employing set screws 47 for rigidity and adjustment.
Inter-posed between the wear-iron and the bar 42 and in rolling contact thereto is a spool 48 journaled upon the extremity 49 of the arm 50. This arm 50 is bifurcated at its forward end, as indicated at 51 and is pivoted between plates 52, which, being provided with a plurality of perforations 53, as indicated more particularly at Figure 3, permit the vertical adjustment of the lever 50 by the removal and replacei'uent of the pivot pin 54.
Pivoted to the arm 50 at 55 is a lever 55" with iiierforations 56 to accommodate a pin 57 (see Figure 3) providing for the adjustment of the lever mlative to the arm. To the upper end 58 of this lever a spring 59 is attached, continued by means of a wire or cable (30 extending through a loop 61 and forwariilly to the manual bar Attached also to the lower curve of the lever 55 is a clevis from which a wire or cable 56 extends forwardly and connects to the draw-bar 62 so that stress is applied directly fromthe draw-bar through the wire 56 and clevis 56' to the lever 55 to exert additional effective weight upon the rear crusher structure. 1
In operation it is obvious that with the parts assembled, as shown at Figure 1, the several units will operate in relation there shown. -When, however, a turn is to be made, as for instance to the left, the tendency will be to move the crusher toward the line of plows. This movement, however,will result in the link 21 pivoting the spindles 16 to direct the disks 24 to prevent a collision of the crusher with the plow structure. The movement of the disks 24 in the manner disclosed will also operate to guide the rear crusher structure by reason of the connection of the'arms 30 and bars 33 through the several bearings to the shaft 35. It is ob-' vious that a turn in the opposite direction will have exactly the opposite result. What I claim is:
1. A clod crusher for operation in conjunction with a gang of plows comprising a unit having a frame with supporting disks adjacent its opposite ends journaled to rotate and to swivel about vertical axes, means to attach the said swiveling means to operate in consonance, means to attach the unit to a beam of one of the plows, means to attach the swiveling means to a beam of another of said plows, and a second disksupportedunit attached in the rear-of said first unit. a

A clod crusher comprising a unit-composed of a frame having supporting-disks adjacent its opposite ends mounted to rotate and to swivel about vertical axes in synto connect another of said 'plows' with said forward unit for the purpose of guiding said unit, a second unit mounted in the rear of said first unit and having guiding means connected with the guiding means of said first unit, and means carried by said first unit at times tending to lift said second unit.
4.- A clod crusher adapted for operating in conjunction with a gang of plows having a draw-bar at their front, a clod crusher said last-mentioned unit, and means extending from said lever over said first structure 30 to the draw-bar tending to lift the second unit.
