CIIIJCINKIKTI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE K-IULAMP GOIvIlANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, A CORPOBATIOTE OF OHIO.
LOOK FOR LAMP DOORS.
Application filed March 25, 1920.
To all whom it may, concern:
Be it known that I. l lnwnno Tl. Dinn- MEYER, a citizen ol the United States, and resident of Cincinnati in the county of Hamilton and titate of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Locks tor Lamp Doors, of which the following a full, clear, and exact description, rclrrence being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this spec-ilication.
The present invention relates to looks for amp doors and particularly to such as are designed for use on automobile headlamps.
By reason of the continual vibration and shock to which the headlamps of automobiles are subjected, the doors, containing the front lenses or glasses. frequently become loosened and are broken or lost. It is to the provision of a simple and eflicientlock, wl erehy the difficulties mentioned are overcome. that the present invention is directed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a lock for a lamp closure. of neat and uimhstrusive tllflX-BfllilllCfl as not to detract from the desi n and outline of the lamp itself.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description thereof.
in the drawings:
Figure l. is a trout view of a headlamp equipped. with a lock constructed in accordance with. the present invention. parts being hrolren away;
Figure 2 is a top view of said lamp:
Figure 3 is a perspective of a portion of the loclr.
The numeral 1 indicates the casing of ordinary headlamp. The front of said casing is provided with an annular flange 9,. over which he flange 3 of the closure Frame 4 is adapted to fit in the usual manner. The flange 2 is provided. with a plural itv ot slots 5. preterahly four in number. The slots 5. as indicated in Figure 3 are angularlv disposed with reference to the front edge ot the flange 2. the angle of inclination being iinitorm in all of the slots The flange 2.. in trout oi? the slots 5. is provided with bent-in portions or depressions Serial No. 868,688.
6; these depressions or grooves are disposed so as to communicate with the ends of the slots nearest the front edge of the flange.
The flange 3 of the closure frame is provided with a plurality of pins or studs 7 having external heads 8. The pins 7 are arranged to pass through the grooves 6 and upon rotation of the closure upon the flange 2 to enter the slots 5. The front edges of the slots acting against the pins 7 during the rotation of the closure draw the closure tightly against the front edge of the flange 2.
The body of the lamp has riveted thereto a spring clip 9 which extends over the flange 2, at an elevation just sufficient to permit the entry of the flange 3 of the closure frame 4:. The clip 9 is provided furthermore with a perforation 10, which is disposed over the rear end of one of the slots 5, so that when the closure is placed on the lamp and rotated to position as above indicated. one of the heads 8 will engage in the perforation 10 of the spring clip, to lock the closure upon the lamp.
From the foregoing description the nature and advantage of the present invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which the same appertains. Then the closure is placed on the lamp and rotated into position. the head 8 of one of the lock pins 7 enters the perforation 10 of the clip which immediately springs downwardly over the same. effectually locking the closure against rotation. and thus against removal from the lamp. It will be seen thus. that by reason of the several features of construction above described. a simple, neat and efficient lock is provided, whereby the removal and loss of the closure is absolutely prevented. The mechanism described heing simple in construction it will be understood furthermore that the same is extremely inexpensive in manufacture as well. in its ap plication to the lamps.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is:
lock for lamp closures comprising the combination with a body having a flange provided with slots ansulflrly disposed With reference to the front edge of said flange,
of the former upon the latter, external heads on said lock pins, and a spring clip on the body of said lamp, said clip having a perforation arranged to engage one of said heads when the closure is rotated so that the pins are in the extreme ends of the slots away from said grooves, to secure the closure against rotation.
EDWARD W. DRIEMEYEsR.
