citizen ot the United States, and a resident ot Scranton, in the county of Laclravvanna and State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and usct'ul improvements in Mining-Car Trucks, of which the 'following is a full, clear, and exact description. A rThis invention relates to car and truck mountings and in particular to mine cars wherein the body of the car is carried on a journal box in which the axle revolves.
A particular object of the invention is the provision or' a construction that will allow of 4the body or the car being brought closer to the ground so that the miner will not have to lift his load so far each time in fillingr the car.
Another-object is to provide a bearing plate, which, While being formed to allow of lowering the car body Will also be prevented from slipping endwise.

With this arrangement the chamber frombetween the spokes of the wheel.
It can thus be seen that in this construction, the car is lowered appreciably more than in the case where a plain straight bearing plate is used. Also there is provided a self-aligning journal box which is essential in` this type of car to maintain even wear `on the parts as'the tracks of mines are usually crooked and present a rough path over which the cars must travel.
Claims.

A car orv the class described, comprising a sill having arecess formed in the under side thereof, a bearing plate secured to the under side of saidsill, and a journal box supported from said; bearing plate, said bearing plate having a'medially disposed depressed portion adapted to fit into said recess whereby the top of said journal box will be disposed above the face of the under side ot said sill. j
2. A car mounting of the character de` scribed, comprising a bearing plate, a journal box below said bearing plate, and means on saidl bearing plate 4`for supporting said.

A car mounting of the class described, comprising a sill having a semi-circular recess formed in the under side thereof, 'a bear ing plate secured tothe under side of said sill, a depressed portion formed on the transverse center of said bearing plate and snugly fitting into said recess, a journal box disposed immediately below said bearing plate and normally aligned with the depressed portion thereof, crutches `formed with .said bearing plate at the opposite sides of said depressed portion, extensions formed at the opposite sides of said journal box and adapted for engagement with said crutches whereby said journal box is loosely supported in position, anda boss formed cem trally of the top of said journal box and 10o adapted to'cooperate with the'opposed face l ot the depressed portion of 'said bearing plate whereby said journal box is rendered self-aligning 7.
