ANTIBIATTLING DEVICE.

To all to 710m it may concern lie it known that 1, CHARLES J. Sosa, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the count; of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Antiratt-ling Devices, of which the following a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to maize and use the same.
This invention relates to anti-rattling, devices and more particularly to devices of this class adapted for use in. connection with the windows or window panels of motor vehicle doors and the object of the invention is to provide means whereby the adjustable memher which cooperates with the window panci my be moved from an operative to an inoperative position without adjusting said member, and to hold the same in its operative as well as its inoperative position under tension, and with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a device of the class specified which is simple in construction and operation and etlicient in use, and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following soeciiication, of which the accompan ing drawing forms part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a sectional plan view of a part of the window of a motor vehicle and showing my improvement mounted in connection therewith;

in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, 1 have indicated at 5 a part of the framework of window of a motor car provided with the usual vertically adjustable window panel 6, and mounted upon the sill 7 of the window frame in the construction shown is one of my anti-rattling devices 8 which, in the form of construction shown, comprises an ololong rectangular hollow base member 9 provided with a central aperture 10 at the opposite sides of which are other apertures 11 1921. serial No. 483,671.

Mounted upon the base 9 is an upstanding: member 13 provided at its upper end with a threaded aperture i l in which a bolt-like member 15 is adj ustably mounted, said member being;- provided at its outer end with a milled head 16 and at its inner end with a head 1? provided with a cushioned face 18 which is adapted to abut or engage the window panel 6.
The member 13 is provided with an enlarged l9 and with a reduced stud 20 which passes through the aperture 10 in the base 9. as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and said stud is provided within its base with a pin 21 both ends of which extend through said stud and are adapted to operate in connection with a spring; plate 22 which is re tangular in form as clearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The plate 22 is composed of spring sheet metal and is provided, in the form of construction shown. in the bottom face of said plate when in use with four depressions or recesses 23 arranged at right angles to each other and that part of the plate around said depressions or re:- uses 23 is slightly raised as shown at fi l in l ie i of the drawing. The plate 22 is preferably split as shown at 25 to increase the sgring;- qualities thereof.
In the use of the device and after the parts thereof have been assembled as shown and mounted in connection with the sill 7 of a window frame or door frame, as the case may be, the bolt-like member 15 is adjusted to bring the cushioned face 18 against the window panel (5, after such panel has been adjusted into a predetermined position to hold the panel against rattling, and when it is desired to adjust the panel 6 instead. of moving the boltlike member 15 outwardly, all that is necessary will be to rotate the upstanding member 13, by grasping the boltlike member 15, into the position indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and in this operation the projecting ends of the pin 21 which were located in two of the recesses 23 of the spring plate 22 will pass over the raised portion or portions 24 of said spring plate and drop into the other of said recesses 23 at right angles to the first named recesses and thus lock the bolt 15 and member 12 in the position indicated in dotted lines in Fig. l.
After the panel 6 has been adjusted to the desired position, the bolt 15 may again be grasped and rotated to return the parts to their normal position as shown in full lines in Figs. 1 and 2. I am well aware that ad justable devices of this classare notbroadly new, but my invention consists primarily in the provision of means whereby the operative parts of the device may be moved from an operative to an inoperative position without manipulating the adjustable member of the device and to hold the device in its operative and inoperative positions, and while T have shown certain details of construction ror carrying my invention into effect, it will be understood that i am not necessarily limited to these details, and various changes therein and modifications thereof may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my invention, what i claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1.1K device of the class described comprising a suitably supported member, an anti-rattling element adjustably mounted in connection with said member, means whereby said member may be moved into different positions to move said rattling element into operative and inoperative position, and tensional means cooperating with said member or holding the same in di'tl'erent positions of adjustment.
2. An anti-rattling device of the class described, comprising a base, an upstanding member rotatably mounted in connection with the base, a bolt-like anti-rattling element adjustably mounted in connection with said member, tensional means mounted in 1 teens? said base, and means on said member within said base and cooperating with said tensional means for holding said member in different positions of adjustment.
3. Bin anti-rattling device of the class described comprising an oblong rectangular and hollow base member, a member rotatably mounted in connection with said base member, an anti-rattling element provided with a cushioned face adjustably mounted in connection with said last named member, a spring member mounted within the base member and provided with a plurality of spaced K'Gi'QSSQS, and a pin passed through that part of said rotatable member within the base member and co-operating with said spring plate for holding said rotatable member in different positions of adjustment.
l. A device of the class described comprising a base, a member movably mounted in connection with the base, an element adjustably mounted in said member, and means for frictionally retaining said member in predetermined positions.
5. A device 01 the class described comprising a base, a member movably mounted in connection with the base, an element adjustably mounted in said member, and ten sional means cooperating with said member for retaining the same in predetermined positions.
