T all whomz't may concern: Figure 3 is aside elevation showing a Be it known that I, CESARE BARBIERI, a finished dish. I SHbJGCl of the Kingof Italy, and afresident Figure'4 is a view similar to Figure 3' of the city of New York, in the county of showing a slight modification of the method 5 New York and State of New-York, have of forming the dishes. invented certain new and useful Improvegu 5 is a p sp tiv view showing the ments 'in a Sundae Dish and Method of m d of packing a plurality Of the manu- Manufacture;. andI do hereby declare that factured dishes. the followinglis a full, clear, and exact de- Figure is a P n View Of a ompl ed scription of t e same, reference being had to d sh folded for packing- V the accompanying drawings, and t th Figure 7 is an endelevation of the dish I numerals of reference marked thereon, shown in Figure 6. i to which form a part; of this specification. igur 8 is at p plan view of a completed This invention relates to improvements in disll- I l sanitary dishes for dispensing ice cream AS ShOWIIwOII the i g sundae r th lik d h f r one f it The reference numeral v10 indicates a porobjects the rovision of such a dish which tion f a Sheet 0 strip of paper or other 70 is more economical to manufacturethan the material, from Which h blanks 12 are dishes which have heretofore been used. tlfe e ing been p o s y prepared 0 Another Object of this invention is the y being mp gna h parafiin 01 som provision of ad-igh of prepa ed t i l, other waterproofing composition. folded or doubled cut-out portion 14 being s over in two sections to correspond with each which method other.
In order to be economically packed into the most convenient form for shipping and in such a manner as to require a minimum of space, the dishes are each folded once into the form shown in Figures 6 and 7. The dish is first folded alon the outer line of one of the triangular fo ds 16 and. a corresponding crease 20' is made directly opposite and in line with the same to allow of the dish being folded into a flat shape as shown in Figure 7, and a plurality of the folded prepared dishes may be assembled in compact form for packing as shown in Figure 5.
,It will be seen that herein is provided a conical dish and a method of making the same wherein a minimum of material is used in forming the completed receptacle, results in the saving of quite a considerable portion of the material from which-the. dishes are formed as best shown by the dotted lines inv Figure 1 which illustrate the amount of saving accomplished in the manufacture of three of the dishes or the cutting of three of the blanks which saving of course will increase directly in proportion as the number of blanks cut or dishes manufactured.
The method of folding and packing the completed dishes is also quite effective, especially regarding the great saving in space which results from the method of folding and packing the completed dishes, which have heretofore been 'the patent granted packed and shipped in nested concave form. Moreover, the dishes, after being thus folded, may be readily opened into proper shape whenever desired for use.
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction varied throughout a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting hereon otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as' my invention:
1. A blank for forming receptacles comprising a circular disk having a concave notch cut in the periphery thereof.
2. A blank for forming conical receptacles, comprising a piece of parafiin saturated paper in circumference thereof, said indentation be- -tacle comprising a piece new and improved.
approximately the form of a circular disk but with an indentation in the ing in the form of an arc of a circle of the same radius as the circle comprising the disk.
3. A blank for forming receptacles including a disk of prepared material having a portion of the periphery thereof cut away, said cut away portion being in the form of an arc of a circle of the same radius as the circle comprising the disk.
4. A- blank for forminga conical recepof material having a concave notch cut in the periphery thereof.
5. A conical dish formed of a properly folded piece of material approximately circular in form having an indentation in the periphery thereof and concealed between two overlapping portions of the dish.
6. A conical dish formed of a properly folded piece of prepared material approximately circular in form having an indentation in the periphery thereof and concealed in the foldedover portions of the dish, said folded over portion being in two layers, one of which is completely concealed and includes the indentation in the circumference of the prepared blank.
7. A method of preparing blanks for the manufacture of conical receptacles, including the cutting of a piece of prepared mate rial into approximately circular disks, each disk having a cut-out portion in the periphery thereof formed by overlapping the cutting member of the adjacent disk thereover.
8. A method of forming conicaldishes from prepared blanks approximately circular in form. but with a portion of the periphery including folding certain sections of the blank to form the same into conical shape, said folded over sections including and concealing the indentations in the. peripheries.
9. A method of forming a conical dish from a prepared blank approximately cir cular inform, but with a portion of the periphery of the blank cut away, said method including folding certain sections of the blank to form the same into conical shape with overlapping sections, said overlapping sections enclosing and concealing therebetween a section including the indentation, said section further being approximately triangular in shape and having two sides thereof correspondin to radii of the circle comprising the blank.
In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
oE'sARE BARBIERI.
