Be it lnown that l., FRANK SIMONYE, citi- Zen of Yugoslavia, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful "improvements y'Washing Machines, ot which the following is a specilication.

rEllis invention relates to clothes washing machines, having tor a general object to provide a siinple and inexpensive machine of this sort.,

A further object of the invention is to provide a washing machine which may be mounted as an attachment on wash-tubs such as a commonly provided in dwellings.

As here shown my improved clothes washing machine comprises a pair of side traine plates 1C' which are provided with rearwardly extending lugs 1l in which are fixed laterally proiecting pins l24 which engage in'bearing brmlrets i3 adapted to rest upon the top side edges of a wash-tub 14 of ordina constructiona The brackets 13 have their lower edges channeled to receive the usual 1li extending around the top of the tuh le and are adapted to be secured to the latter by set-screws 15 threaded 'laterally through the brackets. rli`he brackets 13 have also set-screws 16 threaded vertically therethrough and adapted to engage the pins 12.

Fixed on the roller shafts-21 and 29 are lsprocket wheels over which is looped a sprocket chain 36, engagement ot the chain with the intermediate sproclret wheels being ensured by means of suitably supported idler rollers 37 which bear on the top thereof. Fixed to the shaft 22 of the roller 21 which is nearest the brushes, is a gear 38 which meshes with a gear 39 tired to the trunnion of a roller d1 located above,and co-cperat- 8@ ing with the inner one ofthe rollers v22. Gear 39 is driven, through 4a pair ci idlers t0 and d1, from a gear pinion Ll2 tired on a stub shaft l mounted in one ot the side plates 10, in which the idlers 39, t0, t1 are also supported.7 The stub shaft t3 may have a crank handle del lined thereon for manual rotation or the machine may be power operated if desired. lov drive the brushes 24,

The clothes entering between the brushes 2d and 25 have water discharged thereon from a perforated pipe 60 extending across the machine, this pipe leading from a pump 6l supported by and under an inward projection 62 on' one of the side plates 10, this pump having an intake pipe 63 extending down and into the tub 14 in which a supply'of water is placed. The pumpv 61 is driven by a sprocket chain 64 looped over a sprocket wheel 65 on the rotor of the pump, an idler 67 and over a sprocket wheel 66 fixed to shaft 26.

The brush 25 and adjacent one of theV rollers 22 are preferably mounted on resilient supports such as are shown in Figures and 6. The supports comprise the open frames 7() having slotted sides 71 in which are guided the bearing blocks 72. These blocks rest on springs such as 7 3 interposed therebetween and the lower horizontal members of the frames 70, screws Hsuch as 74, being threaded downward through the top members of the frames 70 to adjustally position the blocks 7 2.

In the use of my improved machine the latter is placed on the tub 14 and the screws 15 tightened, after a quantity of suitably treated water is placed in the tub. The clothes are placed on the table 55 and fed by hand onto the rst of the rollers 22 which feed them forward to the brushes 24, 25 between which they pass, falling down the chute into the tub 14, from which they may be removed and the operation repeated as often as may be necessary.

It will be noted that, by reason ot the greater surface speed of the brushes 24, 25 over the rollers 22, 41, the brushes have a rubbing action on the clothes, the respective.

Letters Patent of the United States is as v follows:

1. In a clothes washing machine, a pair of rotary brushes,- a series of rollers adapted to feed the clothes between said brushes, a pair of brackets adapted to be fixed upon a wash-tub, a frame supporting said rollersand brushes, and means pivoting said frame to said brackets.

2. A clothes washing machine comprising a pair of side frames, a pair of brushes and a series of feed rollers supported by said frames, a table arranged in Jfront of said rollers, a perforated pipe extending across the machine in front of said brushes, a pump supported by one of said side frames and having the said pipe connected thereto, and means for driving said brushes, rollers and pump.
