ATTORNEY Patented Mar. Ell, 1923.
ALBERT ROGERS, OF LA MESA HEIGHTS, CALIFORNIA.
PASTE BECEPTACLE.
Application filed October 8, 1921. Serial No. 508,412.
To all whomit may concern.
Be it known that L )iLiniirr Romans, a citizen of the United Fltates, residing at La Mesa Heights, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Paste Receptacle, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a receptacle to be used in place of the ordinary paste pot, bottle of paste or tube and provided with means in connection therewith for distributing the paste on the object to be pasted and the objects of my invention are: first, to provide a receptacle of this class in which the paste will not harden for lack of moisture; second, to provide a receptacle of this class which will not leak; third, to provide such a receptacle with means for distributing the paste as desired without the necessity of using a brush or other unhandy appendages; fourth, to provide a receptacle of this class in which the paste is spread in a thin sheet over the object to be pasted, by the receptacle itself and fifth, to provide a device of this class which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, easy to operate, eilicient in its action and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention consists of certain novel features of construction combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my paste receptacle; Fig. 2 is a top or plan view thereof; Fig. 3 is a sectional view through 3-3 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 1 is a longitudinal edge view of the diaphragm used for pressing the paste from the receptacle.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawings.
The main body member 1, reinforcing clamps 2, top 3, diaphragm 4t, head member 5, revoluble member 6 and staple member 7 constitute the principal parts and portions of my paste receptacle.
The body member 1 is preferably shaped as shown. The lower surface 1 is flat and it is provided centrally with a plug 1 therein which is adapted to admit the paste into the receptacle. This body portion 1 is preferably composed of thin metal, preferably aluminum. The upper edge is provided with a groove 1 which is adapted to receive the outer edge of the diaphragm at, the diaphragm being bent down over the portion 1 and the extreme edge inserted in the groove 1". This diaphragm member 4 it will be noted is thicker at the center at a and gradually tapers toward the edges. It will also be noted that it is thinner at the large end and thickened toward the small end as shown best in Fig. 4 of the drawings. so that when the pressure is brought to bear on the cover a the air between the cover 3 and the diaphragm t will cause said diaphragm to be depressed, naturally at the weakest point which would be at the large end of the receptacle, causing the paste to move out of the hole 1 at the small end and as it is compressed it will conform to the inside of the shape of the receptacle, beginning at the large end and gradually taking the form of the inside surface of said receptacle, thus removing all the paste from the same from the large end toward the small. Secured over this diaphragm 4; is the cover 3 the edge of which is also mounted in the groove 1. This cover 3 is provided on its top with a dome-shaped portion 3 which is provided with a hole 3 therein for admitting air into this dome-shaped portion and when the operator presses on the receptacle for removing the paste he puts his finger over the hole 3". In order to support the members 3 and the edges of the members 3 and 4 in the groove 1 the clamp members 2 are provided on opposite sides, the inner surfaces of which conform to the outer surface of the receptacle 1 and the two members are hinged together by means of a hinge 2 at their one ends. These members 2 are provided with inwardly turned edges 2* which are adapted to engage the edges of the members 3 and 1 and press them tightly into the groove 1 thus providing a tight joint between the members at and 3 and the receptacle 1. The other ends of said members 2 are supported by means of a ring 52 secured around the ends of the body member 1 and over the small ends of the members 2. At the small ends of the body member 1 there is provided a neck 1 which is provided with a central hole 1. This member is externally threaded and mounted upon the externally threaded portion is the head 5 which is shaped as shown best in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings; This head member is cylindrical in form and closed at one end and flattened on one side at 5* and the hollow portion is positioned so that it intersects the side 5 forming a narrow slot 5 and revolubly mounted in this hollow portion is another cylindrical member 6 which is provided with a conforming slot adapted to register with the slot 5 when the cylinder 6 is turned in certain relative position thereto and with an opening on the opposite side to register with the opening 1* in the small end of the member 1. Secured to this cylinder member 6 is an extended handle member 6 which is adapted to facilitate the turning of said cylinder member 6 and in said cylinder member is provided a spring staple member 7 which is adapted to provide friction to prevent the unauthorized turning of the member 6 in the member 5 so that the slot in the cylinder member 6 registers with the slot in the member 5 but may be moved relatively to the latter thereby changing the thickness of the exit.
Though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement oi parts and portions 1 do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
It is obvious that with this construction there is provided a paste receptacle which is convenient for facilitating the distribution of paste; that when there is slight pressure on the upper surface of the resilient top the paste will be induced to move out through the narrow opening by reason of the air pressure between said top and the diaphragm 5; that the thickness of the layer or" paste may be readily regulated; that the device is simple and durable; that the paste will not dry therein; that the device may be closed so that no paste will run and the paste will not dry therein, it being contained within an air-tight chamber.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A paste receptacle, including a rigid body member, a resilient top therefor, provided with an air inlet hole, a diaphragm between said top and said body portion and an. outlet in connection with said body portion.
2. In a paste receptacle, the combination of a rigid body member, a resilient top therefor, provided with an air inlet hole in said top, side pieces for reinforcing said body portions, an elastic diaphragm between said top and said body portions, and an outlettr-om said body portion.
3. In a paste receptacle, the combination of a rigid body member, a resilient top therefor, provided. with an air inlet hole in said top, side pieces for reinforcing said body portions and sealing the edges of said top, a resilient movable elastic diaphragm between said top and said body portions, means for holding the edges of said diaphragm in certain relative position to said body portions and an outlet for said body portions.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego, California this 19th day of September 1921.
ALBERT ROGERS.
