I preferabl bend this guide member so that it assumes; roughly the shape of a portion of an ellipse when iewed from the side. as indicated in Fig. 2. since this has been found hr experiment to be the shape cans ing the least strain on the yarn. The edges of the guide member are rounded so as not to wear the yarn unduly.
The operation of the device is as foll.)\\': :-'l'he lower end of the yarn on bobbin E. having been lirst tied by the operator to the upper end of the yarn on bobbin 3. as indicated at X. and the tied hortio'n ot' the yarn being placed outside the guide wire 13. the upper end a of the yarn on bobbin 2 is threaded through the tension device, the thread guide. and engaged with the spool. and the spooler set in motion. 'hile the yarn is being drawn off from bobbin 2 the yarn passes over the guide member substan tially as indicated in Fig. l. the iosition of the balloon which the yarn torms during the process of unwinding being roughly indicated at 19, 19. lpon the exhaustion of the yarn on bobbin 2, the tied ends will be drawn upwardly over the outside of the guide until the slack has been taken up and unwindin from bobbin 3 begins. The yarn from be in 3 now 5 over the guide member at substantially the point 18. and thence to the tension device. thread guide and spool. I
By the use of this guide member the train sition of the unwinding operation from the first to the second bobbin is made easily and without a sudden jerk, and breakage of the yarn is thus avoided.
This guide member acts. therefore. as a guide for the yarn during the whole process of unwinding, the yarn being guided into a position substantially in the axis of'each bobbin during the period of unwinding from such bobbin. and being guided from one of these positions to the other during the transition of the unwinding operation from the first to the second bobbin.
The only mechanism which need he sup- )lied to a spooling machine as ordinarily in use for the purpose of adapting it to continuous bobbin feed in accordance with my invention, is this guide member. which is simple and easy to construct.
It will be obvious that many changes might be made from the form shown in the drawings, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
