It eonsists of a hollow sorew, to be hereinafter more fnlly described, provided with longitudinal slots 130 allow of the ready entranoe 0f the sap. It also consists in having said sorew provided with a rim o1 projeoting edge to prevent a buoket o1 pail, whon hung thereon, from slipping oft,
und also in having tl1e head of said sorew provided with slits or notehes for the entranoe of the point or end of a driver to force 01 sorew the device into the -tree whendesired. It further consists in having the Sbid sorew made with a tapering hole, so that when the sap is in, it freezes and prewants the flow. As soon as it has begun to thaw 01 melt, the pieoe 0f ice Will immediately slide out and allow the flow of sap to continue. lt is evident that the hole must taper or dixninish toward tl1e inner end of the screw.
In tl1e aooompanying drawing, a shows the sorew; Z), tl1e thrends thereon; c, the tapering hole; d, the longitudinal slots to allow of the entrance of the sztp; e, the projecting edge or 1rim and f tl1e slits 01' notohes in which the driver is to be placed when the device is to be sorewod or forced into -the tree. The sorew is, preferztbly, of the forn1 shown in the drawing that is, having an open inner end into Whi0h the s2tp mzty I'llll, als, well as through tl1e longitudinal slots bofore desoribed; laut it is evident that it may be slightly modified and accomplish tl1e sznne result.
