`When the latch lever is thrown down into the position shown in Fig. 1, it will automatically move into engaging position with the lip because the tendency of the spring connection 6 will be to draw the bar 5 1ongitudinally far enough to cause the notched portion of the latch lever to move into eni" gagement with the lip 15. The end ofthe latch lever 21 is in the form of a lip which will overlap the lip 15 so that a smooth appearance will be presented to the observer.
It will be apparent that the device can be readily applied to the pen casing and that it will be effective in accomplishing the result desired.
What I claim and desire to secure by LettersPatent is:
1. A filler tube actuator for pens comprising astrip bent intermediate its ends to form two substantially parallel bars, the portion of the strip connecting the two bars having a spring tendency, an upstanding -`|projection on the lower bar extending through a longitudinal slot in the upper bar, the upper bar having means for attachment to a fountain pen shell, a pivoted latch bar on the upstanding projection extending -through the slot, and means on the pivoted latch bar for engagement with the means for securing the upper bar to the shell.
2. The combination with a fountain pen shell and a filler tube therein, of a bar norv"inally lying upon the filler tube, a substantially parallel bar spaced from the first named bar and having yielding connection therewith, the'seeond mentioned bar having a slot coinciding with the slot in the shell. an upstanding projection'on the first named bar projecting through the'slots in the second mentioned bar and in the shell, a pivoted latch lever connected to the upstanding projection, and means on the latch lever for removably fastening it to the edge of the slot in the shell.
3. A filler tube operating device for fountain pens comprising a pair of parallel bars, yieldingly connected together, one of the bars having a projection extending through a slot in the other bar, means on one of the bars for engaging the edge of a slot in the fountain pen shell, said means having a lip, and a latch lever connected to the lower bar and having a notch for engaging the means for connecting the upper bar to the shellof the fountain pen.
4'. A fountain pen filler tube actuator comprising two bars resiliently connected together, one of which is provided with a longitudinal slot and in spaced relation to the other har, an opstanding projection on the other har extending through the slot in the first named bar` means for connecting the first named har to the shell of a fountain' pen` and a pivoted lever connected to the projection adapted to swing into and out oi operative osition so that when in one posi tion it wil lie longitudinally of the shell and when in operative position it will lie transversely to the shell.
5. A fountain pen filler tube actuator comprising a bar bent over at one end and back upon itself to form a second bar having a spring connection between the two bars, the bars constituting an upper and EDWIN E. KRATZ.
