IMPROVEMENT IN BlLLlARD-CUE CLAMPS.
Specification forming part ofLetters Patent No. 144,824, dated November 25,1873; application filed October 29, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER D. BENJAMIN, of Toledo, county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamps for Leathering Billiard-Gues, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to certain improvements in devices for retaining in place until dry the leather tips which are glued or cemented to the ends of billiard-cues; and it consists in a series of rods provided with springs at their upper ends, and working vertically in a bracket, which is adapted to be screwed or otherwise secured to the wall, so that the cues may be placed with their buttends resting upon the floor and their tips under the lower ends of the rods.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a front view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom view.
A represents a bar, having its ends beveled oh, and provided with screw-holes a a, by which it may be fastened to the wall. B is another bar, similar to the bar A in form and dimensions, and attached thereto by means of braces b. The bars A and B have holes formed in them for the reception of rods or cue-clamps G, which fit loosely therein, so as to work easily in-a vertical position. Each rod O has a knob formed on its upper end, to which is attached one end of a spiral spring, d, the other end of which is secured to the upper side of the bar A. The lower ends of the rods are made slightly concave to receive the tips of the cues. The bracket thus formed of the bars A and B may be of any desired length, and provided with any suitable number of rods. It is screwed, or otherwise secured, to the wall at such a height that when the cues are placed with their butt-ends resting upon the floor, and their tips under the concave lower ends of the rods 0, the springs d will press the rods O firmly down upon the leather tips glued or cemented to the upper ends of the cues, and retain them in place until the glue or cement becomes dry and set, By having the bracket made of straight bars it may be of any desired length without the inconvenience which would result from a bracket made in the form of a stand with a base or platform attached; and, by having the rods 0 pass through both the bars A and B, they have a firm and solid bearing, and lateral displacement is prevented.
