To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RAYMOND Srmmv, a citizen of the United fitates, residing at Prue, inthefcounty of Osage and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pump Jacks, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a pump rod operating jack, and more particularly to the class of walking beams and operating mechanism for actuating oil well pumps.
The primary object of theinvention is the provision of amechanism of this character, wherein the walking beam is supported in a'novelm'anner and is constructed and arranged to Withstand heavy loads, the pump rod-being rea'dily attached to and removed from the operating end of the walking beam, while connected to the opposite end of said beam is operating mechanism, which also is novel in form so that the said beam can be readily rocked for actuating the pump rod.
Another object of the invention is the provision of mechanism of this character,v wherein minimum power is,required for actuating the pump jack including the Walking beam connected with the pump rod.
A further object of the invention is the provision of mechanismof this character, wherein the support or fulcrum for the walking beam is'constructed, arranged and mounted relative to a foundation or platform so that it can be properly adjusted for the alinement of the pumprod withinthe well cap, thewalking beam, swingingly connected to the support,.is of novel form so as to permit theoperatingmechanism to be conveniently attached to and removed therefrom, this also being true of the pump rod, said walking beam being also adjustable relative to its supportso as; to vary the leverage of the operating mechanism therefor. A still further object of the invention is the provision of mechanism or jack of this character, which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efiicient in its purpose, readily and easily set up for use, and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Secured to the upper face of the beam 10, centrally thereof, by the hold-fast devices 12', is a vertically disposed bridge piece 12, over which is extended a truss rod 18, the latter inclining downwardly from its center toward each end. Secured to the upper face of the beam 10, at one end thereof, by the hold-fast devices 14; is a bracket 14, and secured to the upper face of the beam 10 at the other end thereof, by the hold-fast devices 15 is a bracket 15. Each of the brackets 14, 15, is provided at its inner end with an upwardly extending and inwardly inclined arm 15", and to the said arms 15 the ends of the truss rod 13, are secured by the hold-fast devices 15". The beam 10, at that end carrying the bracket 14, as well as the latter, is bifurcated for the reception of the upper end of the pump rod B. The outer end of the bracket 14, is formed with an upwardly extending hook 16, to receive the cross or T-head C, at the upper end of the pump rod as shown in igures 1 and '2 of the drawings. projects outwardly from that end oii'the beam 10, to which it is secured, and theextended portion of the bracket 15, is formed with a downwardly extending hook 17, in which is detachably mounted the upper end of an inverted L l-shaped connector strap 18, having its lower ends looped, as at 19, for connection with the beam operating mechanism to be hereinafter referred to.
Carried by the cross piece 6, is a U- shaped anchor 20, to which is pivotally connected the lower ends of spaced inclined brace rods 21, which have their upper ends pivotally connected, as at 22', to clamps 22, secured upon the side arms of the support 9, for maintaining the latter in an upright position when supporting the beam 10.
To prevent the lateral displacement of the beam 10, on the top of the support 9, a pair of spaced stops is secured thereto and arranged one at each side of the beam 10, as clearly shown in Figure 2. Secured to each. of the beams 5, intermediate its ends by the hold-fast devices 25, is a bearing 25, and in the bearings 25, is journaled a stub shaft 26, which constitutes a pivot for a substantially triangular shaped rocking lever comprising a vertically disposed inner arm 27 a pair of outwardly extending spaced parallel lower arms 27" formed integral with and disposed at right angles with respect to the lower end of the arm 27, an inclined outer arm 27*, having a looped lower end 27, through which extends a pivot pin 27 for connecting the arm 27, to the rear ends of the arms 27. The upper end of the arm 27*, is looped, as at 27 and merges into the upper end of the arm 27.

J insane? arm 27*, is the looped end 28 of an operating rod 28, and pivotally connected to the projecting ends of the pivot 27 are the lower ends of the connecting straps 29, which have looped upper ends 29, for attachment to the looped lower ends 19 of the connector strap 18.
llt will be apparent from the foregoing construction and arrangement of elements,
that on reciprocation of the rod 28, the triangular shaped lever will be rocked on its shaft 26, and through the'connection between said lever and the walking beam, the latter will be oscillated on the support 9, causing thereby the reciprocation of the pump rod B, within the well.
The arm 2?, of the triangular shaped rocking lever is provided with an eye 30, which is adapted to be engaged by a latching hook 31, for locking the lever from movement. The latching hook 31, is mounted on the cross piece 6, between the side arms of the support 9.
Carried by the other cross end piece 6 of the base orplatform 5 is a U-shaped anchor 20 to which are pivotally connected the braces 21, the same being also pivotally connected to clamps 22 mounted upon the limbs of the inverted ti -shaped support'9 so that in this manner the latteris held in upright position for the carrying of the" walking beam. The saddle 11 of theiwalkingbeam 10 medially thereof is formed with plural transverse notches 23, constituting seats for the upper closed portion of the support 9 and in this manner the said walking beam 10 can be adjusted relative to the support as will be clearly obvious from Fig. 1 ofthe drawing.
The support 9 is fitted in its top crossbar with stops 2 1 to prevent any lateral displacement of the walking beam 10' thereon.
Mounted on the longitudinal beams 5 of the 'platform or base at an i intermediate point are bearings 25 in whichis journaled a stud shaft 26 constituting a pivotior a substantially triangular shaped -rocking 1ever 27 to the inner arm of which is connected the operating rod 28, while to the outer arm of said lever 27 is pivotally connected the connector straps 29,the same being also connected to the looped ends 19 of the connector member 18 hereinbefore described.
It will be apparent that upon operating, that is to say, reciprocating the rod 28, the lever 27 will be rocked on its shaft 26 there by imparting corresponding movement to the walking beam 10 for the reciprocation of the pump rod B within the'well.
The rocking lever 27 is formed with an eye 30 while mounted between the limbs of the support 9 upon the cross end piece 6 to which the support is connected is a latching hook 31, the bill of which is adapted to cmgage in the eye 80 of the lever 27 to fasten the same against movement when the occasion requires.
It will also be apparent that the walking beam 10 can be adjusted upon the support 9 so as to properly valine the said walking beam relative to the pump rod B and also to vary the leverage of the beam should the occasion demand.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction and manner of operation of the pump jack will be clearly understood and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
I What is claimed is:
1. In a pump jack a walking beam having a centrally disposed bridge piece, a bracket secured to each end of said beam and each having its inner end formed to provide an upwardly extending and inwardly inclined arm, one of said brackets having its outer end formed to provide a depending hook for connecting an operating mechanism with the beam and the other of said brackets having its outer end formed to provide an upwardly extending hook for con necting the walking beam to a pump rod, and a truss rod extended over said bridge piece and having its ends connected to said arms.
2. In a pump jack, a walking beam having a centrally disposed bridge piece, a bracket secured to each end of said beam and each having its inner end formed to provide an upwardly extending and inwardly inclined arm, one of said brackets projecting beyond the beam and having its outer end formed to provide a depending hook, the other of said brackets having its outer end formed to provide an upwardly extending hook, a truss rod extended over said bridge piece and having its ends connected to said arms, a pump rod detachably connected to said upwardly extending hook, a connector strap detachably engaging with said depending hook, connecting straps having looped connections with the lower ends of said connector strap and a rockable lever pivotally connected to straps.
3. In a pump jack, a walking beam, a support therefor, a pivotally mounted triangular shaped skeleton lever having one of its arms formed to provide a loop, an operating rod connected to the looped portion of said arm, a pair of connecting straps pivotally connected to the lower arm of said lever and having looped upper ends, a connecting strap depending from one end of said beam and having a looped lower end connected to the looped upper end of said connecting straps.
4:. In a pump jack atriangular shaped skeleton lever comprising a vertically disposed inner arm, a pair of lower arms integral with and projecting outwardly from the lower end of the inner arm, an outer arm having a looped upper end merging into said inner arm and further having a looped lower end, said outer arm extended between said lower arm, a pivot pin extending through the looped lower end of the outer arm and through the outer ends of the lower arm, a walking beam, an operative drive connection between said pivot pin and one end of the walking beam, means extending through said lower arms for pivotally supporting said lever, and an actuating means for said lever connected to the looped upper end of said outer arm.
