To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, OLIVER C. CURTISS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State o f Pennsylvania, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in Toy Savings Banks, of which the following is a speciication.

The main object of my present invention is to make a toy savings bank which will have the appearance of a miniature cabinet talking machine and as such will attract so much attention and inspection that it will be an incentive for a child or other person to deposit money therein.

Another object, is to so construct my improved bank that it will have certain parts which are movable in the same manner as parts of an actual cabinet type of talking machine such for example as a hinged lid and front doors, and to so arrange the doors t that when closed they will cover the coin slot.

Another object is to so construct and arrange the parts that they may be made of cardboard, glass, metal or other suitable material. i

These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, Iattain inthe following manner,` refe-rence being had to the accompanying drawings in whichi Figure 1 is a face view of a cardboard blankwhich is cut, scored and printed so that when -folded and pasted it-will form a bank of the above described character,

Figure 3 is a perspective view showing said blank after it has been pasted together and finished with the exception of a removable top portion which I preferably employ.

Referring to the drawings and particularly to Figures 1 to 8 inclusive a single blank 14C which may be of cardboard is cut or stamped in the shape illustrated in Figure '1 and includes a back portion 15, two

side portions

16 and 17 extending from the back iportion, a lid portion 18, a bottom portion 19, front 'portion 2O and a top portion 21. The above mentioned portions are all formed integral; the

16 and 17 being adapted to be bent upon scored lines 22A and 23. The lid portion 18 may be bent on the scored line 24C and the bottom portion 19 may bev bent on the scored

25 and 26; the blank being cut at 27 to provide rear legs 28; the scoring lines 22 and 23 extending downwardly through the portions which form the rear legs so that when folded'the rear legs will be 'angular in cross section; a part being in the plane of the back portion while other parts are in planes with the

The scored line 25 is substantially on the level of the bottom edges 33 of the sides 16and 17 so that when the to permit the edge portions of the lid to be bent to provide a hollow lid withbeve'ls adjacent its edges as clearly shown 1n Figures 3, 4 and 5. The parts adjacent the notches may be pasted together or if desired the interior or exterior surface may be covered with a sheet ofl paper to hold the edge portions in their beveled arrangement. The front portion 20 includes an upper part 36 which has transversely scoredv lines 37, 3S and 39. A coin slot 40 is cut out of the part 36 preferably in alignment with the scored line 38 and the part: 36 is bent on the lines 37, 3S and 39 toprovide an indentation 4l which is adapted, when the parts are folded as shown in'Figures 2v and 3, to include the coinslot 40 at its innermost part. The top portion 21 preferably includes a scored flap 42 which may be coated with adhesive material and adaptedto be pasted against the inner surface of the back portionr 15 with the-upper surface 43 of the top portion at the level of thetop edges 44 of the

side portions

16 and 17; The top portion 21 inchicles a hole 45 designed to receive the depending flange or collar 46 of a removable capl 47; said cap havinga head 43 in the form of a disk which .may be printedrand colored to lrepresent a turntable of' a talking machine with a record thereon. If desired a small pin` 49'1nay be inserted upwardly through the head 48 to represent the centering pin of a talking machine turntable as clearly shown'in lfligures 5, 6, 7 and 8. The top portion 21 is also preferably provided with side scored flaps 50 which may be coated witharglhesive material and the front section 20 is also preferably provided with side flaps 51 which are scored and coated ywith adhesive material and these side flaps ofthe top and front portions can be pasted against the inner surfaces of the sides16 and17 whenthe latter arefolded into position; In similar manner the bottom section 19 is. preferably provided with side flaps 52 which are scoredv and coated with adhesive material and arranged to be pasted against the inner surfaces of said

For example the side 16 has the representation of a winding hand crank 58 printed or otherwise formed thereon. rlhe front portion 20 has the representation of cabinet doors 59 formed thereon. The top portion 21 together with the disk head 48 has the representation of a tone arm 60 printed or otherwise formed thereon. ln similar manner other representations, such for example as key holes, door knobs and other well known parts of alcabinet talking machine, may be printed or otherwise produced.

Coins canbc insert-ed into the hollow body portion of the bank through the coin slot 40 andif desired to remove the money the cap 47 can be lifted out of the hole 45 after the lil has been raised. The cardboard may be colored to represent various kinds of wood such for example as mahogany, oak or the like and if it is desired to use a plain cardboard without anyv representations thereon the parts can be folded and secured together as above described and a paper blank used to cover the cardboard, such for example as the paper blank shown in Figure 9. This ,paper blank may be colored and printed to include the representative parts asV above specifically described and'in this manner a complete covering for the visible portions may be had. The inner surface of the paper blankshown in Figure 9 may be coated with adhesive material and quickly pasted so as to cover all of the visible parts and'in some instances may be preferred to the method of construction above described where Vthe cardboard blank has the representative features of thetalking machinedirectly printed or otherwise formed thereon.

ln Figures 10 to' 13 inclusive I have shown a construction in which my improved bank may be niadefby casting or molding'the sameout of metal or by making the parts outl of glass and in this form the doors 53a may be connected by hinges 54a4 to the iollow` body portion to cover the indentation 41a which includes the coin slot 40a. The lid 13 may be connected to the hollow body portion by hinges 24a and iff desired the interior of the' hole 45a may be' screw threaded to receive the screw threaded collar 46a' ofv a" cap47a. Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. A toy savings bank constructed from a blank composed of a longitudinal series of flexibly bent members and two laterally extending members, said members being bent and joined at their meeting edges to form the top, iront, bottom, back, sides and lid of an imita-tion talking machine.

A toy savings bank constructed ironia blank composed of a longitudinal series of flexibly bent members and two laterally extending members, said members being bent and joined at their meeting edges to form the top, front, bottom, back and sides of an imitation talking machine, the lateral members having extensions forming legs.

A toy savings bank constructed from a blank composed of a longitudinal series of liexibly bent members and two laterally extending members, said members being bent and joined at their meeting edges to form. the top, front, bottom, back and sides of an imitation talking machine; a part of the front member of the blank being bent to 'form an inwardly7 extending bellows lold and provided with a coin slot in the inner edge of a fold; the side members having extensions forming doors adapted to close over the fold.

6. A toy savings bank including a body consisting o'E bottom, side, front, rear and top walls, the top wall having an opening, a removable cap adapted to close the opening and a lid adapted to close over the top.
