'Be itknown `that I, JOHN HOEMANN, a citizen ofthe United States, residing `at Berkeley, in the county of Alameda Vand State of California, have invented a` new` and useful lmprovement in Toys, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a toy..V

It is the principal object ofthe present invention to provide a toy which will afford considerable amusement, at the same time requiring skill in its operation.

The present invention contemplates the use of a manikin head so designed as to be placed over the hand and thereafter manipulated to open and close its mouth, the mouth of said figure carrying a cord of re` silient material to which a ball is fastened and which ball may be caught within the mouth of the manikin at the rebound of the cord.

The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a View in front eleva-tion showing one form of the present invention.

Fig. 2 is a View in central vertical section through the toy showing the way in which it is mounted'over the hand ofthe operator.

In the drawings, 10 indicates a manikin head.' This head is preferably made of papier mch or other like material. The head of the manikin is formed in one piece which is supplemented by a lower jaw portion 11 adapted to complete a mouth 12. This jaw portion comprises a lower lip, the chin and throat, which latter part is adapt ed to move in and out from in the rear of a front portion 13. The jaw is pivoted to opposite sides of the head at points 14. By reference to Fig. 2 it will be seen that the mouth is formed with inturned lips 15 which provide recesses above and below the mouth into which the lingers and thumb of a hand may be placed and by which the mouth may be opened and closed. In the drawings forming a part of this specification the head has a grotesque appearance although it will be understood that other designs might be ado ted such as animal figures and the like. A skirt portion 16 hangs from around the neck of the manikin and is intended to form a cover for the arm of the operator as well as give the appearance of clothes for the figure. Fixed to the upper lip ofthe manikin is an elastic cord 17 which may be of considerable lengthand'which carriesfa ball y 18 at its opposite end;thi s` ball is preferably of softrubber which mightstrike the face of the manikinwithoutl damage. A free band 20 is stretched across within the head from pivot pointl 14, to pivot point 14. This band may be used when the operator has a small hand in which case the band will lie across the back of the hand.

It will thus be seen that this invention, while decidedl simple and inexpensive as to manufacturing costs may be used to afford considerable amusement as a toy.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A toy comprising a hollow figure `head wherein the hand of an operator maybe in serted, a lower jaw portion pivotally connected to the head, an int-urned upper lip on the head for the reception of the ends of the operators fingers, an inturned lower lip on the jaw portion for the reception of the end of the thumb of the operator and a band eX- tending across the inside of the head and adapted to bear against the hand of the op-V It is intended that the cord 17 tion of the head member whereby it will swing therein when operated by the hand of the operator.

3. A toy comprising a hollow kmanikin head adapted to be positioned over the hand of an operator, a moving jaw formingfaf part of said heada-nd adapted to be manipu lated by the hand of the operator, upon which the manikin is mounted, va resilient cord'securedto the manilrn head andv a ball carried by the opposite end oi" the oord and adapted to pass through the mouth of the manilzin when the mouth has been opened and to be caught inthe hand of the operator.

4. A toy comprising a manikin having a hollow head of suflieient dimensions to receive the hand of an operator, a movable lower jaw pivoted to said head and provides means `engaged by Jche hand of the-operator whereby the `mouth of the manikin may be opened and closed by movement of theop* eratorsfingers, a rubber oord secured to the upper lip of the mankin head, and a resilient ball secured to therother end of said oord, `and Aadapted to pass through the opened witnesses. v
