STORE CABINET.
Application filed June 13, 1922.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. WALKER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Spartanburg, in the county of Spartanburg and State of South Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Store Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates generally to store furniture, and more particularly to store cabinets, my object being the provision of a floor cabinet which will combine storage and display features in such manner as to preclude ready disturbance of display arrangements of merchandise ,after they are once made and willat the same time admit of convenient access to the display arrangements when the latter are desired to be altered from time to time.
In carrying out my invention I propose a floor cabinet including a stationary display section having a transparent top, front and side walls and entirely open at its rear so that for purposes of display arrangement of merchandise the interior is especially accessible, this display section being normally closed so as to avoid disturbance of the articles on display, by a rear storage section having a movable support independent of the stationary support of the display section so that it may be easily and quickly shifted from its normal position when the arrangement of the interior of the display section is desired to be changed.
In the accompanying drawing illustrating my invention and forming a part of this specification.
Figure l is a vertical cross section through my improved cabinet showing the same in normal position,
Figure 2 is an end elevation of the storage section detached, and
Figure 3 is a similar view of the display section detached.
Referring now to these figures my invention proposes a floor cabinet for stores and the like including a display section 10 within which a suitable stand including an upright 11 and shelves 12, the latter of which may have mirror tops 13, may be utilized for the support of articles on display. This display section may also have a mirror base 14 and is mounted upon any suitable stationary support 15 and provided with transparent front and end walls 16 and 17 and a transparent top 18, the rear Serial No. 567,892.
ofthe display section being entirely open and preferably disposed at an angle as shown for a purpose which will be presently understood.
The rear or storage section 19 which may have internal shelves or other suitable article supports as at 20, and rear sliding doors 21, is preferably provided with an opaque top 22 and end walls 23 and has an inclined forward surface coinciding with the inclination of the rear of the display section 10, its front preferablyhaving a mirror 24C forming a rear reflecting surface within the display section 17 for the better and more prominent display of the articles therein, it being noted that the support 25 of the rear or storage section 19 is movable by virtue of lower feet or rollers 26 so that while normally disposed to close the forward or display section 10, this rear or storage section is readily shiftable therefrom as indicated by Figures 2 and 3 so as to permit of easy access to the entire interior of the display section in the rearrangement or substitution of articles on display therein.
- By thus providing a storage section which though movable, normally closes the display section and must be bodily shifted from the display section to permit of access to the latter, I insure permanency of arrangement of articles on display until it is desired to substitute or rearrange such articles and I make it sufficiently difcult of access to the interior of the display section to discourage frequent tampering with articles on display and yet promote and insure quick convenient access to the display section when rearrangement is desired.
I claim:
1. Store furniture in the nature of a floor cabinet consisting of a forward display section having a stationary support and permanent transparent front and side walls and open at its rear, and an opaque rear storage section normally abutting and closing the rear portion of the display section -and having a movable support independent of the display section whereby it may be bodily shifted tow'ard and from the latter.
2. Store furniture in the nature of a Hoor cabinet consisting of a forward display section having a stationary support and transparent walls and open at its rear, and an opaque rear storage section normalthe display section and having a movable support independent of the displayV section -Whereby it may be bodily shifted toward and from the latter, said storage and display sections havingsimilarly inclined abutting portions7 and a reflecting surface for the rear of the display section carried by the inclined front of the storage section.
3. Store furniture in the nature of a floor cabinet consisting of a forward display section o pen along its entire rear portion, having' a stationary support and a transparent top and side Wallsy, and a rear storage section normally abutting the rear portion and closing the display section, having article supporting means therein and having' a movable supportl independent of the display section whereby it may b e lpodily shifted toward and away from the atter.
vWILLIAM PRENTISS WALKER.
