ICE-CREAIVLSTAND GUARD.
Application filed June 19, 1922. Serial No. 569,571.
To all whomit may concern: 1 Be it known that I, MARGARET M. TEN- NANT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at /Vyommg, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Cream-Stand Guards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of de vices used to protect appetizing foods from being handled by the public, while partially exposed to view, and has as its object to provide a transparent screen disposed in such manner as to prevent touching of the goods exceptby the vendor.
Another purpose is to provide, in addition to the main front guard, lateral elements so arranged as to thwart persons from reaching around the corners of the stand on which the articles are displayed.
A further aim is to so construct the lateral elements that they may be extended either at right angles to, or parallel with the main shield as preferred, spring clamped when in an angular position or entirely removed from the remainder of the structure.
These and other objects tending towards sanitation, cleanliness and consequent healthfulness, are attained by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming amaterial part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a conventional type of ice cream dispensing tank, illustrating the application of the in.- vention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmental, side elevational view of one of the side screen members.
Figure 3-is a fragmentary sectional view looking on line 8-3 of Figure 2.
The dispensing apparatus as shown in the drawing consists of an elongated rectangular tank or box generally designated by the numeral 10 resting upon supports 11 and provided with a removable cover 12.
This tank is adapted to contain broken ice surrounding the ice cream containing cans disposed therein, the cans projecting upward and having their open ends covered with removable covers 13, three of which are shown.
At the outer front corners of the tank are post-s 14 supported by braces 15 and connecting across their tops is a beam 16, below which, closely adjacent the tank cover 12, is a rail 17, these four elements constituting a frame in which is set a transparent pane 18, usually of glass.
A longitudinal kerf or recess 19 is formed in each post and in register thereabove arenotches 20 in the beam 16, and passing transversely through the kerfs are pins 21 fixed in the posts. y
Fitted to the notches 20 are uprights 22, their main portion abutting the posts 1&, and held in the uprights, by screws 23 are flat plates 2&i'having angular, downwardly extending hooks 25 adapted to engage the pins 21 when the hooksv are entered in the kerfs 19, drawing the uprights firmly against the posts and holding the uprights in a rigid but releasable manner.
On the front faces of the uprights are pairs of hinges 26 engaging triangularly shaped wings 27 carrying transparent panels 28 which may be extended at right angles to rest upon the end of the tank cover 12, as shown in Figure 1, or outwardly, either one or both, in a plane parallel to the main frame of the structure.
When the wings are positioned as in Figure 1, they may be held by a pair of opposed spring catches,- 29, fixed on the inner sides of their lower elements, the same engaging v pins 30 fixed in the cover, thus holding the wings in. adjustment, i
From the foregoing it will be seen that persons at the front of the tank are prevented from touching the tank or cans, but the same can be seen through the screens.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
'1. The combination with a food display 1 stand having a removable cover, of a vertical transparent screen fixed to Y extend above said stand along one of its longer side edges, uprights removably engaged with the vertical elements of said screen, triangular wings hingedly engaged to said uprights adapted to 'extendoutwardly at the ends of said screen parallel therewith or to be turned .to extend'at right angles therewith over said cover, and means carried co-operatively by said wings and cover for holding the wings when disposed over the cover;
2.. The combination with a food display stand having, posts at its front corners, said posts being recessed, of a rigid frame ex tending above the vertical front of the stand, a transparent panel in said frame, uprights i'eniovably engaged With said posts, hooks carried by: said uprights, pins extending across the recesses in said posts, said pins being engageable by saidhooks to hold said uprights and posts in tight Contact, transparent triangular Wings hinged to said uprights adapted to be turned at right angles over the stand. or to be extended outward, 10 a and means for holding said Wings in fixed position when disposed over said stand.
In witness whereof I afiix my signature.
' MARGARET M. TENNANT.
