T01 all-107mmit may concern 7 Be it known that we, Jesse Gonna and EDGAR A. Gonna, citizens 'of the United States, and residents of Leavenworth, county of Lezh-en-worth, State of Kansas, have invented certain'new and i'iscful iIDPiGVQ- nie-ntzin Barrel Racks or Hangers, of which the following; is a complete specification.
The. present; inventirm relates to supporting. stands or racks, and aims to provide an improved supporting structure wl'iereby a barrel or drum may .be carried either inan upright position, or conveniently rockedto any one of a different number of more or less horizontal 1-)ositionsr'as may be required in the dispensing of the contents of the barrel or drum.
To this end we have devised an improved rack or stand which comprises a fixed uprightframe, together with a pivot-ed hanger frame adapted torock within the upright frame into various different positionsaccording-to the position into which it is deinto lts different positions by means of an sired to move-the barrel or drum, and also a suitable latching-means for conveniently retaining the hanger frame and barrel in any one of. the positions assuugied thereby With the foregoing general object in view, the invention willnow be described by reference to the accompanyingdrawing illustrating one form or construction which-we have devised for em-bodying the proposed ITHPIOVGIDGlIfS:ELftQY'WlllCh the novel features therein will be particularly set forth'and claimed.

Figure 4- is a detail view showing a. portion of the latching; means.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, this illustrates the improved construction as comprising a fixed upright frame or standard comprisingan inverted-U-shaped frame piece 5, the lower ends of which are connected by a transverse frame member 6, and each of the lower ends of the frame piece 5 being provided with a base member 7, the ends of which are connected by inclined supporting or brace pieces 8 with approxi- 1e21. I
The hanger frame is adapted. to be moved operating arnr orhandle 22 which is integral or rigid with one of the trunnion members 12, and also provided with a latching means which is operative to retain the hanger frame and drum inthe different positions thereof. This latchingzmeans comprises a latch arm 24 pivotally connected at one of its endsto a bracket piece 25 which is rigidly secured to the armor handle22 and at right angles thereto, as shown in Figure The bracket piece 25 is secured to the arm or handle 22 at-su'cha point that when the arm or handle 22 is in vertical position :the bracket piece 25 will project across a catch-elen'ient .26 carried the frame 5 and projecting outwardly therefrom in position for suitable engagementby the latch member The outer or free end. of the latch member 24 is provided with a. set of recesses or notches 28 for engagement. with the catch element 26, the said recesses being undercut, as clearly shown in Figure 4, for the more effective retaining engagement with the catch 26, as will be readilv understood. The provision of aplurality of these notches 28 enables the barrel or drum hanger frame to be tilted into different angles with reference to the main frame or standard. 5, Figure 3 showing broken lines representing said hanger and the drum 14: supported thereby rocked into horizontal position and retained in this relot) ' of the faucet 29.
a "it -14,:
shown by the full lines in Figures 1v and 2,
the bracket piece will be projected across the catch device 26, allowing the latch memher 52st to hang in freely suspended relation,
as shown, and effectively preve'ntingany movement of the drum out of its vertical position, in which position the drum of course requires a less effective latching function as the contents of the drum become gradually diminished, thereby lowering the center of gravity of the hanger port-ion of the construction.
It will thus be apparent that we have devised a practical efficient and con'iparatively simple arrangement and construction for fulfilling the desired objects of the invention. The barrel or drum 1.4 is of course placed within the pivoted hanger with the faucet 29, used for dispensing the contents from the drum, at the upper end of the drum, so that as the latter is rocked into more or less inclined position the contents may bereadily drawn off by the operation The improved rack or hanger construction is one that is especially adapted for use with drums: containing oils, gasoline or any other liquid contents, of which it is desired to maintain a convenient supply in stores, or garages, or in many cases upon private premises. The latching means shown and described insures a reliable retention. of thebarrel or drum in required to insure the return of the drum into its initial or upright position.
; When the contents. ofthe barrel have been comprising a fixed upright frame or standard, a barrel hanger frame pivotally supported by said standard, and adapted to support a barrel or drum in various different positions with reference to the pivotal axis of said hanger frame, a fixed catch element carried by said standard, an operating handle rigid with said hanger frame and provided with a right-angle bracket piece, and a latch member pivotally connected at one end to said b-racket'piece and freely depending therefrom, said latch member being adapted to engage said catch element for latching said hanger frame in one of its operative positions.
2. A device of the character described comprising a fixed upright frame or standard, a barrel hanger frame pivotally supported by said standard, and adapted to support a barrel or drum in various different positions with reference to the pivotal axis of said hanger frame, a fixed catch element carried by said standard, an operating handle rigid with said "hanger frame and adapted to contact with the catch element when occupying its vertical position,
and a latch nember pivotally connected at oneend to said operating handle and adaptcomple'tely drawn off, it is a simple matter to detach the hanger from the empty drum, and to reapply the hanger in properly and securely clamped relation to a barrel or drum containing a fresh. supply of the liquid to be dispensed and mount the same "in operative position, the trunnions having meanwhile been. removed from the'bearings ed to hang dependently therefrom at the opposite side of said catch member from said handle when the hanger frame is in its vertical position and to engage said'catch member when the hanger frame is swung from its vertical position. a In witness whereof we hereunto affix our signatures. JESSE GOBLE.
