IMPROVEMENT IN VEGETABLE-CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,645, dated Nevember-18, 1873; application filed October 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN R. WHARRY, of Moundsville, in the county of Marshall and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inVegetable-Cutters 5 and I do hereby declare the ibllowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention relates to animprovement in vegetable-cutters; and it consists `in one or more pivoted bottom pieces, proa which the box c slides back and forth over the doubled-edged cutting-knife d. The two bottom pieces e are pivoted at their outer ends, so that their inner ends, which extend just under the edges of the cutting-knife, can be raised or lowered at will. To the under side of each piece is pivoted a cam, g, of any suitable construction, which, by pressing against the tops of the crosspieces h with their inclined under surfaces, raise the pieces up against the knife, or allow them to be depressed downward, so that thethickness of the cut may be regulated at will. If so desired, anyA other mechanical device, or equivalent of the cams, maybe used for this purpose. In the box c is placed the follower or press-board t, which keeps the ar-` ticle being sliced pressed down upon the knife. To the top of the board is secured an upright or standard, l, which has a part of each edge removed, so that it will lit the inside of the box, and which has secured to each edge a downwardly-projecting arni, o. These arms fit in the grooves eut in the sides of the box, and serve not only as guides to the follower, but as means of attachment to the handles n, by which the box is moved back and forth, and the follower pressed down upon the article being out.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The frame a, box c, follower t l o n, pivoted bottom pieces c, knife d, and cams g, the parts being arranged and combined to operate substantially as shown and described.
