ELECTRIC POLE.

GENTARG YUMURA., 0F TOKYO-FU, JAPAN,
ELECTRIC POLE.
Application filed February 9, 1921.
To all whom t may conce/rn:
Be it known that l, GnNTARo YUMURA, a subject of the Empire of Japan, residing at No. 1599 Ui-Machi, Ebara-Gun, rlokyo-F` u, Japan, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in an Electric Pole, of which the following is a specification.
ll/ly invention relates to improvements in an electric pole characterized by the construction that a hollow column, provided with several bamboo rods arranged longitudinally in a circular position, is made of concrete containing crushed liparite in place of ordinary sand or gravel, and an iron bar is arranged through the bore of the column with pulp fitted around the said bar.
The object of the invention is to provide an electric pole strong, comparatively light, easy of transportation and erection, and securing ground connection against lighting.
The accompanying drawings show an eX- aniple of an elect-ric pole of the invention. ligure l is an elevation. Figure 2 is an enlarged cross section, and Figure 3 is a longitudinal section of the same.
Referring1 to the drawings a hollow or tubular column l is made of concrete containing crushed liparite in place of ordinary sand or gravel, for instance, three to four parts of gravel or sand of crushed liparite about one-eighth inch or less in diameter are mixed with one part of Portland-cement. lNithin the body of the column are provided bamboo reinforcing rods 2 arranged longitudinally in a circular series. These bamboo rods are held in their position by spacing elements consisting of radially disposed lateral arms 3 and 4- fastened at their forked ends by bolts 5 to tightly clamp the bamboo rods, and the other ends of the said arms are lined to supporting rings 6 and 7 respectively arranged at suitable intervals in the inner and outer surfaces of the hollow column l.
To guard against the corrosive action caused by alkalies issuing from cement, the bamboo rods are previously coated with asphalt or any other suitable paints, and after having been fitted up with arms 3, 4l, and rings G, 7 to form a cylindrical reinforcing frame, it is put in a pattern and then the aforesaid concrete is moulded into the pattern, thus the' column is made,
An iron bar 8, preferably an l shaped Serial No. 443,631,
beam as shown in Fig. 2, is arranged extending through the center of the hollow column l, and pulp 9 is tightly fitted around the said bar in the bore of the column to se cure the insulation between the bar and the body of the column.
After the pole has been erected as show in `llig. l, cross arms l() and a shelf ll for putting on a transformer, or any other fittings are lined to the pole on its external rings 7. A lighting conductor 12 is arranged at the top of the pole and is connected to the upper end of the bar 8, the lower end of which is electrically connected to wet soil underground by any known means.
The electric pole of the present invention, as above stated, being made of concrete containing crushed liparite in place of ordinary sand or gravel and provided with bamboo reii'iforcing rods instead of iron reinforcements, is much lighter in weight and more resilient in comparison with ordinary ren inforced concrete electric poles, and therefore it is easy and safe for transportation and erection. Besides the iron bar arranged in the bore being insulated from the body of the column by means of pulp litted around it, the electrical insulation from the other parts of the pole viz rings, cross arms, etc., is rendered perfect and a safe ground con-l nection for the lighting conductor is obtained and any leakage of electric current is absolutely prevented.
.l claim.
l. A. pole comprising a permanent solid core, a plastic body having a longitudinal bore receiving and spaced from the core, and elec ric insulating material interposed between the core and the plastic body.
2. A pole comprising a core of electrical conducting material, a plastic body having alongitudinal bore receiving the core, electrical insulating material interposed between the core and the. body, and a lighting conductor connected with the core and extending from one end of the body.
3. A pole comprising a plastic body having a longitudinal bore, a plurality of reinforcing elements anchored in said body, rings arranged internally and externally of the body and spacing elements connecting the rings and engaging the reinforcing elements.
the rings, each spacing element consisting of companion clamping member embracing the reinforcing element and provided with oppositely directed arms @ngaging the inter- 10 nal and external rings. I in teatiniony whereof I have axed my signature.
