BOTTLE-WASHING MACHINE.
application ined March 1o, 192i. serial no. 451,134.
To all 'ic/1,0m t may concern.'
Be it known that l, HARRY D. LATHROP, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county ofl Cook, and invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bottle-lVashing Machines, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates toimprovements in 'bottle washing machines, and has for its object an improved construction of this character which is simple, capable of economical manufacture and highly efficient in use.
@ther objects will appear hereinafter.
he invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafte-r de` scribed and claime i The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings this specification, and in whic F ig. 1 is a partial top plan view of a machine embodying the invention;
1g. 2, a transverse section taken on line i' ig. l; and
Fig. 3, an enlarged detail section of a spraying device employed in the machine. The preferred form of construction as illustrated ,in the drawings comprises a suit- [l able tank 4 adapted and arranged to contain the hot washing fluid or compound. A suitable track or longitudinally along the top of tank 4 and consists of two-anglev irons 5 arranged as i shown. A spray head 6 is arranged adjacent one end of tank `4 under the guides 5, said spray head being provided in its top with a plurality of -spray openings 7 arranged and adapted to project jets of water upwardly into the mouths of milk lbottles or the like arranged in inverted position in a suitable crate 8 traveling onsaid guides, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2. The spray-'head 6 is supplied with water through a pipe'9 leading to a coil 10 located in tank 4 and supplied with cold water under ressure through a. branch pipe 11 -leading rom a cold Awater supply pipe 12 as shown. y this arrangement, the cold water passing from the coil 10 will be moderately heated before being projected into the bottles to bewashed, thus serving as a preliminary rinse for said bottles and also serving to moderately heat the same to prevent breaking thereof upon subjection to more inguide-way is extended4 \with cold water through a p guides tense heat. Thus the rinsing wateris not only moderately heated by this arrangement but the hot solution in tank 4 is somewhat cooled thereby, thus tending to temper the temperature of the washing solution in tank 4 and prevent undue heating thereof. The preliminary heating of the water passing to the spray head 6 also has a crease the pressure thereof.
A Washing spray head 13 similar in all respects to the spray head 6 is located under the guides 5 and over one end of the tank 4 so that a solution spraying thereon will drain'back into said tank. The spray head 13 is supplied with washing fluid by means of a pipe 14 leading from a perforated casing 15 located in the bottom of tank 4. The casing 15 is supplied with steam through a steam nozzle 16 connecting with a branch pipe 17 leading from steam supply pipe 18 and whereby a jet of steam will be supplied to said casing. A cold water supply pipe 19 leads into the casing `15 adjacent the end of nozzle 1G and co-operates therewith and with the incoming steam to forcibly eject the washing compound through pipe 14 and 'spray head 13, said washing compound being projected upwardly into the inverted mouths of the open bottles as they pass over spray head 13. Another spraying device 20v is located in the bottom of tank 4 and similar -in all respects to the spraying device 15, be-
ing supplied with steam through a branch 21 leading from steam supply pipe 18 and branch 22 leading from cold water supply pipe 12.
A pipe 23 leads from the spray casing 20 to a spray head or pipe 24 located above the passing through, the machine. By thisarrangement, sprays of hot washing fluid will pose. i
Bv this arrangement, a simple and eifectiveu bottle 'washing machine is provided which is capable of economical manufacture.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form ofconstruction for carrying my invention into effect, this is 'capable' of variationand modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. fore, do not wish to be limited to the precise tendency to in- 5 and above the' crates of bottles 8 v ll, theredetails of theconstruction set forth; but desire to ava-il myself of such variations and modifications as come Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A Washing machine comprising a tank containing` hot washing fluid; WashingY means associated with and using Huid from said tank; rinsing;` means associated withsaid taille and arranged to rinse an article prior to subjection to said Washing means; and ay supply pipe for said rinsing means passingy throuh said tank, substantially as described,
2. Washing machine comprising a tank; a Washing spray located above said tank; rinsing; means positioned `adjacent one end of said tank but not over the same and arranged to rinse articles prior to subjection to said washing spray; and a supply pipe for said rinsingmeans passing through said tanl'r, substantially as. described.
3. A'Washing machine comprising a tank containing hot Washing uid; washing means associated With and using fluid from said tank; rinsing means associated with tank andarranged to rinse an article prior to subjection to said Washing; means; afpipecoil in saidtank; a cold Water supplyhpipe leading tesaid coil; and a supply pipe leading from said coil to said rinsing means; substantially as described.
4. Washing;` machine comprising a tank a Washingspray located above said tank; rinsing' means positioned adjacent one end of said tank but not over the saine and :irranged to rinse articles prior to subjection to said Washing` spray; a pipe coiled in said tank; a cold water supply pipe leading to said coil; and a supply pipe leading)A l'roni said coil to said rinsing spray; substai'itiall as described.
A washing` machine comprising' a tank; a guide passinzgY over said tank; a washingr spray located over said tank and under said guide; a rinsing` spray located under said guide and not over said tank and arranged to rinse articles on said guide prior to subjection to said washing spray; a coil located in said tank; a cold Water supply pipe leading to said coil; a supply pipe connectingr said coil with said rinsing spray; and means Afor forcing rluidfrom said tank to said washing spray, substantially as described.
ln testimony whereof I have signed my name to this speciiication in the presence of tiro subscribing witnesses.
