The bolt 44 which is disposed through one of the openings 32 of the toothed plate 27 and through the slot 38 of the disk 34 oi the toothed plate 33 also passes through the registered holes 5l of the handles 46, 47 and througha boss, as 52, which extends "from one. of the handles rotatably into the boss 2O of the supporting bar 10. The bolt 44 also passes, as above explained, through the opening 19 of the supporting bar, and the handles are tightened or loosened `as desired to the supporting bar l() by screwing thenut 45 of this bolt accordingly. The hooks50 of the ngers 49 are engaged in the openings 35 and 352L of the disk 34 of the toothedplate 33 for operatively oonnect ing the handles to this toothed plate. On the bars v48 of the handles 46 and47 may be vlinger pieces, as 53 and 54, one in the forni of a ring and the other in the form of a split or partial ring, as shown,I to allow the oper-A ator of the apparatus topass two lingers of one hand therethrough for conveniently operating the clipping device. Each of the inger pieces 5,3 and 54 has an apertured lug 55, which are movably disposed'upon the bars 48 of the handles so that the ringer pieces or rings 53 and 54 may be suitably adjusted on the bars 48, and in each of thelugs is a threaded hole with a set screw 56. Projecting in opposite directions from the lengthwise edges of the plate 68 are two spaced rows of prongs, as 69 and 70, and the number or' prongs of these rows are ypreterably less thanthe number or' prongs ot the plate 59 so that the prongs o' the plate 68 are spaced wider apart than the prongs ol the plate 59. In the top iace of the pronged plate 68 between the rows of prongs 69 and 70 is a lengthwise groove 7l, and slidably movable in this groove from end to end of the pronged plate 68 is a bar 72 having two spaced pins or lugs 73 and 74 projecting upwardly from one end part oit its top'iiace. Also projecting upwardly `from the pronged plate 68 in spaced proximity to the pins 73 and 74 of bar 72 are two pins 75 and 76, and extending upwardly4 from the pronged plate in spaced proximity to the pins 75 and 76 are two more pins 77 and 78. The pin 75 is encircled by the loop 79 oit a spiral spring 86 formed with protruding ends 8l and 82 so that one end ot the spring abuts. against the vpin 73 or the bar 72 and so that the second end ot the spring abuts against the pin 77 ot the pronged plate 68. The pin 76 or the plate 68 is encircled by the loop 83 ot another spiral spring 84 termed withvprojecting ends 85 and 86 sothat one end abuts against "the pin 74 or the siidable bar 72 andso that the second end or' the spring 84 abuts against Through vthe lio any.

The end of the bar 72 projecting' beyond, the pronged plate 68 pivoted, at 941-, to the lower end of a lever, as 95, which is movably disposed between the spaced. cars 28 and @l so that the upper end of the lever extends above the supporting. bar, and this lever is fulcrumed, intermediate its ends, as at 9G, tothe ears 28 to be cnt by the clipping device 2G the apparatus is manipulated by passing the prongs of one of the pairs of rows of the prongs of the plates 59 and 68 as well as passing' the row of fingers 87 or 88 between the pairs of prongs into the required depth of the hair. The lever 95 is then moved on its fulcrinn to movethe slidable bar 72 so that the fingers will be swung on their pivots 93 for causing the prongs 89 of lthe fingers to be moved crossw'ise of the pairs of prongs of the plates 59 and 68 under and above the moving prongs ofthe lingers inserted in the i hair. rlhe strands of hair will then be moved into Contact with the teeth ofthe ing the clipping device, as above explained,

l'o permit the apparatus to be carried and" manipulated by both hands of the operator, a handle, as 97, is provided on the end' of the supporting bar 10 opposite to the handles 4:6 and 17. The handle 97 has a ring, as 98, for admitting a tingervof the operator, and protruding from'this ring may' be a lug, as 9,9, which is swivele'd to the supporting bar 10 by a suitable form of universal joint, such as being hinged, as at 100, to'oneend of a linger 101 having its other end pivoted, as at 102, to one end 0f a bar, as 108, having on its other end spaced ears, as 104 and' 105. The ear 10e may be longer than the ear 105, and thefend of this ear is hinged, at 106, to the protruding ear 23 of the supporting` bar10. Hinged, at 107, to the free end of the ear 105 of the bar 103 is a plate 108 adapted to beswung upon and from the ear 2a of thel supporting 'bar 10, and in the hinged plate. 108 as welll as in the Vear 211 are registered threaded holes in which is inserted a yhnger screw, as 109, for releasably locking` the bar 103 and the handle 97 to the supporting bar 10.` By hinging the ring'98 to the finger 101 the ring` may bev swungbacky and forth crosswise of the supporting bar 10, andby 1 ivoting this finger to the hinged` bar 103 the ring may be rotatably moved for allowing the apparatus to be moved to various desired positions when in usefor trimming or cutting hair.

A hair cutter, comprising a supporting bar, a plate having two spaced rows of oppositely disposed cutting teeth, adjustably mounted `on the bar, a second plate slidably movable between the adjustable toothed plate and the bar and having two spaced rows of oppositely projecting cutting teeth cooperatingwith the teeth of the adjustable plate, a. pair of yieldingly pivoted handles heldto'one end of the supporting bar and connected to the slidable toothed l bar, a plate having two spaced rows of opplate for being manually operated whereby said slidable plate will be yieldingly moved back and forth upon the adjustable plate to cause cutting coaction of the teeth of both plates, and a slidable bar between Ithe toothed plates, `and two rows of curved fingers having one of their ends pivoted to the slidable bar so that their second ends are movable vbetween and lengthwise of the toothed plates.
