Description

F@. s, 1923; J. C. SHUTTLEWORTH WINDOW VENTILATOR Filed Ju'ne 5, 1921 Muff/won Arron/vm Patented Feb.. 6, l923 JOSEPH C. SHUTTLEVORTI-I,
"WINDOVJ VENTLAR.
Application filed June 3, i921.
To all @nimm if may Concern:
Be it known that l, Josnrri C. WORTH, a citizen oic the United States, and aresident of the city of N ew York, borough ot' Brooklyn, in the county or" Kings and vState of New York, have invented a new and improved Window Ventilator, of which the following is a i'ull, clear, and enact dcscription.
This invention relates to window ventilators and has for an object to provide an improved construction which may be bodily applied and removed at any time and lmay be arranged at the top or bottom of any window within certain limits.
Another object in view is to provide a ventilator' having a number oi Ventilating openings and sliding end members for adapting the ventilator to windows of different sizes.
A further object of the invention is to provide a ventilator with spaced protecting screens and associated members for presenting disinfectant receiving chambers in addin tion to providing openings for the passage of air.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a fragmentary iront view of a window trame and part of a. window sash together with a View of the invention applied, certain parts being broken away.
Figure 2 is a sectional view through ure 1 on line 2 2, the same being on an enn larged scale.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view through Figure 1 on line 8 3.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the ventilator in a folded position.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, l indicates a window case of any kind and 2 a sliding sash. The ventilator 3 is adapted to be placed on top oli the sash 2 and the sash moved upwardly until the ventilator engages the upper part of the window frame 1. li desired, the ventilator 3 can be arranged at the bottom oi the window frame without departing Jrrom the spirit of the invention.
ln forming the ventilator 3, it is preferably formed into sections l and 5 hinged together at 6 by a suitable hinge whereby it may be folded as shown in Figure i for -storage or disposal in any desired manner. In order that the ventilator may properly lit windows of slightly different sizes, sliding plates 7 and 8 are provided. As both serial no'. ari-,soa
while at the same time the plate 8 is guided y b pins 11 which pins are iitted into the plate and shdingly ii and13. PrelerablU t 'n to guiding tubes l2 the plate 8 is cut away at le so to expose the opening 15 and at the same time allow a comparatively long bearing suil ace by reason oir' the projection 16. ifi suitable spring 17 is arranged on each of the pins 11 tor resiliently holding the plate 8 in its outer position and against the iframe 1.
ln forming the section 5, `for instance, inner and outer boards 18 and 19 are provided, said boards being provided with suitable openings 15. A separate sheet 20 of wire mesh is stretched over each of the boards so as to cover these openings as shown in l `igure 3 and provide a space between the wire mesh which is divided by partitions 21 in order to present compartments 22 in which a suitable disinfectant 23 may be placed. In order to space the boards 18 and 19 apart, spacing strips 2st are arranged between the boards and held in place screws, nails or other suitable means. lreferably, the boards 18 and 19 are held in place by screws or other easily removable securing means whereby new `disinrectas-it 23 may be placed in any ot thev comp rtments 22-with little trouble. lf desired. metallic trimming rings 25 may be anged in the various openings 15 to produce a pleasing appearance to the` device.
Vfhat l claim is v 1. A ventilator oi the character described comprising a body formed with a front and back board, each of said boards having aligning openings, a spacing strip between said boards along one end and the sides thereof, partition members between said boards extending from one side strip to the other, a wire mesh arranged between said boards and at each side oit said strips, said wire mesh covering` said openings, a plate arranged to slide in the open end of said body, said plate being formed with longitudinal grooves, and a member secured to one oisaid boards adjacent the open end of the body and hitting in one of said grooves.
2. ln a ventilator oiu the class described, a
