DISPLAY RACK.
Application filed March 2, 1921. Serial No. 4%,182.
T 0 (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL J. FAULKNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Racks or the like, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings This invention relates to improvements in display racks, having particular reference to racks provided with suitable bins for re ceiving and displaying fruit and vegetables, or the like.
An Object of the invention is to provide a display rack which will be readily accessible for supplying the bins thereof with the fruit or vegetables to be displayed, and for retailing the same therefrom, which will be of substantial construct-ion, compact as to space required for display purposes; which will be sanitary, readily movable from one place to another, and which will be of attractive appearance and in all respects suitable for displaying with good effect the produce in its bins.
An object of the invention is to provide suitable racks and bins for fruit or vege' tables in bulk, and other racks for produce in baskets or boxes, and still other racks for displaying certain fruit, as bananas, in bunches.
As illustrated in a preferred design and construction, in the accompanying drawings;
Fig. l is a side elevation of my improved rack;
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same;
Figs. 3 and 4c are detail views illustrating the construction of the basket rack, and
Fig. 5 is adetail view of a basket or box rack of modified construction.
As shown in the drawings, the frame structure consists of opposite base castings 1, spaced apart and joined one to the other by a base tie rod 2, the bases 1 being provided with castors 3; posts 4 extending upwardly from bases 1 and having secured to their upper ends by means of couplings 5 posts 6 of larger diameter, the upper extensions of posts 6 consisting of posts? joined one to the other by a connecting bar 7 and having horizontal bars 8 terminating in opposite hooks 9, the posts i, 6 and 7 being made preferably of piping to obtain lightness of construction. Posts 6, as here shown,
struction and arranged in any desired relatlon one to another. As here shown, the
racks are disposed horizontally one above the other in a vertical olane "the lowermost rack 13 being substantially longer and wider than rack 14: above it, and rack 14 longer and wider than rack 15, thus effecting a well-balanced structure, of attractive design and providing for convenient access to the rack bins.
The rack construction consists of a closed bottom made, arcferably, of sheet metal, the vertical sides 10 and ends 17 being constructed of close-mesh wire netting, reinforced at the upper and lower edges along the sides and ends by strips of metal 181. and 202l, the corners being strengthened and finished with metal reinforcements 22.
Each of the racks 18, 14c and 15 is divided into a plurality of side bins 30 and end bins 31 by means of adjustable transverse parttions 23 and racks 13 and 14 with fixed longitudinal center partitions 24, the transverse partitions being pivoted as at 25 to provide for adjusting the partitions rotatably to open the racks full length for removing from the bins any refuse remaining therein after the same have been used.
The longitudinal partitions 24, are substantially higher than the sides of the bin and the transverse partions 23 increase in height from their outer ends inwardly to increase the capacity of the bins and to add attractiveness of design to the display device as a whole.
Mounted on the posts l, between bases and lower rack 13, rot t ble bracLets each support a plural foul shown, of detachable indi dual bass: tracks 2? which are adapted to support at a convenient angle bushel baskets of standard. size, the rack as a whole being mounted to rotate around post 4. to provide for convenient placing of baskets thereon and for ready accessibility to all of the baskets to retail fruit or vegetables therefrom.
The racks 527 are made detachable, as illus trated in Fig. 3, to provide for interchangeability of racks suitable for supporting baskets and boxes of different kinds and sizes,
for receiving fruit or vegetables in bulk or smaller t'ays, being supported on bars 32 in any suitable manner.
F or ease of operation brackets 26 are pro vided preferably with roller bearings, as
illustrated at 28 and 29 in Figs. 3 and 4-, the bearings illustrated being of special design to suit the requirements of the construction, but not claimed as a feature of the invention.
.lF-laving described my invention. 1 claim:
1. In a display device, the combination of opposite bases spaced apart and joined one to the other and each supporting a vertical post,bars fixed in each of said posts and extending laterally of the posts on opposite sides thereof, said bars being spaced one from another vertically, a plurality of display racks supported on said bars one above another, each rack having a longitudinal medial partition extending above the sides of the rack, and a plurality of transverse partitions having their outer ends substantially flush with the upper edges of the sides of the rack and their inner ends substaniyi itsov tially liush with the upper edge of said inedial partition, said transverse partitions being adjustable upwardly to open the racks longitudinally.
2. In display device, the combination of opposite bases spaced apart and joined one to the other and each supporting a vertical post, transverse bars secured in said posts, a plurality'oit racks spaced apart vertically and supported on said bars in fixed relation to said post-s, each lower rack being substantially longer and Wider than the racks above it, and transversely arranged,
partitions serving to divide each rack into opposite end bins and a plurality of side bins and adjustable to open one bin to another.
