T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. B. Warren, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Shreveport, in the parish of Caddo and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sign boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a sign board.
More particularly the present invention relates to the structure of a knock-down sign or bill board and has for its object to provide a structure of this character which may be compactly stored and expeditiously assembled and erected.
A further object of the invention is that the structure when assembled and erected be exceedingly durable and strong.
Other objects, and objects relating to details of construction will hereinafter appear in the detailed description to follow.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings in which 1- Figure 1 is a view in rear perspective of the board when erected.
Figure 2 is vertical sectional view of the same with parts broken away.
Figure 3 is an enlarged view in rear ele vation of an end section of the sign board assembled.
Figures 41.. 5 and 6 are detail views illustrating the manner in which the structural elements are tied together.

Referring to the drawings more particularly, the sign board may consist in a rectangular frame comprising the two angle end members 10. and the top and bottom angle members 11. The end members are secured to the top and bottom members by the gusset plates 12 and bolts 13. The top and bottom frame members 11 are secured to gether by a plurality of cross members 14 which are also preferably of angle iron and three in number. The cross members 14: of suflicient length to extend. beneath the bottom frame member 11 and to provide the legs 15. Three concrete wood or angle iron posts P maybe positioned in the ground at the place the bill board is to be erected, and each post is provided with a cap 16 which may have extending upwardly therefrom a post 17 in the form of an angle iron, and this in turn may be secured to the leg por tion 15 of the associated member 1 1. To each member 14: there may also be secured an anchor member 18 which may consist in angle iron, as shown, and be secured at its one end to the member 1a as at 19, while its other end may be secured to an anchor bar 20 which may be embedded in the earth and provided with a cross head 21 to prevent dislodging of the same. The anchor bar 20 may be secured to the member 18 by bolts as at 22. Also suitable braces 23 may be extended between each member 18 and 1 1.
The intermediate member 1 1 is preferably secured to the frame members 11 by gusset plates 23 which are preferably of the shape shown. These gusset plates should be secured by the means of bolts so that they may be freely removable.
There is also provided a central longitudinal angle frame member generally designated by the reference numeral 24 which is secured at its ends to the end members 10 by the means of bolts as shown in Figure 3. This member is also properly secured by bolts to the members 14: and thus supporting the member 2 1 in a rigid manner. The con struction heretofore described comprises the frame work of the sign board and all mems5 bers constituting this frame may be easily taken apart and assembled into a compact unit and also they may be quickly assembled and erected.
Upon the outer portion of each frame 0 member 11 there is secured a strip 26 which is preferably of wood, said strip 26 being secured by the means of bolts 27. Also a similar strip 28 is secured upon the end frame members 10 by means of bolts or the like.

Each frame or panel F consists in two vertical members 29, the upper and lower cross members 30 and the intermediate cross member 31. The intermediate cross member is of greater width than the end cross members 30. The end cross members are secured to the vertical 11c i so cross members by plates 32 and screws or bolts 33. The intermediate cross members 251 are secured to the vertical members :39 by the means of plates as at 3st. Also these plates may be employed for securing, together the different panels as illustrated. Suitablescrews or nails may be employed for securing the plates 34.
The panels or frame members i are in turn secured to the intermediate angle frame member Qlby strips 35, said strips being shown in detail in Figure (3 ofthc drawings and maybe made of E2tl\"tlll1Z6(l iron or any other suitable metal. The'strips should be bent to provide the U-shaped central portion 36 adapted to fit upon the horiz ont'al section or portion of the angle frame member 24 as illustrated in Figure 6, and the ends of the strips may be secured to, the longitudinal edges of the frame members 31 by nails or screws as at 37, Figure 6.
It is also to be noted that the frame mem- 1361"24 is secured to each of the angle frame members 1% by the means of a strap 38, said strap being specifically shown in Figure 5 and consisting in a central U-shaped portion 39 adapted to fit upon the outwardly extending portion 40 of the angle frame member 14:. This portion maybe secured to the angle frame member by a bOltll, and'the end portions of the strapmay in turn be secured to the angle frame member 2a bybolts 4:2.

The sheeting S is held against the frames or, panels F by the top and bottom. molding boards generally indicated by the reference character 42' as best shown in Figure 2 of the drawings. These molding boards are in each instance, secured to the frame members llby-bolts 4:3. These bolts may also extend through the frame members 14. and between the moldingv boards 42 and angle frame members 11, the top and bottom portions of thepanels F are clamped as illustrated in Figure 2,.tl1us insuring that the frame membersa-re -,g idly held, The molding boards =l2l mayhave' a slight offset cccurrin upontheirlinner faceswhereby to accommodate a portion 'of the-sheeting S. the sheeting S is preferably ma do of galvanized iron in order that it may resist rusting.
Eachend frame member 10 carries a strip as illustratedqin dotted lines in. Figiiire S and generally designated by the reference character 52. These strips may be secured to the angle frame members 10 by bolts as at 53,
. and the meeting ends of the strips 42 and 52 might bebeveledin order to produce a neat appearance.
If desired a smaller sign board. 54 may be supported by retinal members 55 properly secured to the panels ll.
it is believed from the foregoing descrip tion that the'many advantages arising from the present invention may be clearly under stood without further reference thereto. ltis Well to be here pointed out that throughout the entire structure of the board, material is employed which will resist rust and thus to make the sign board last a long; period. A so by bracing the sign board in the manner disclosed all danger of the same being blown over in a storm is eliminated.
I claim 1. A knockdown. sign board, comprising a plurality of vertical members, a post for each vertical member, an anchor bar for each vertical member, a frame supported by said vertical members, a plurality of panels supported within said frame, a sheeting for covering said panels, a molding strip extending about the perimeter of the frame, and means whereby the molding strip may serve to secure the panels in position and also the sheeting.

A knock-down sign board, comprising a frame, the side members of which consist in angle iron, a plurality of panels each 'of which is adapted to extend between said side frame members, a sheeting covering said panels, a molding strip upon the inner side of each frame member, said molding strip being; fittedupon the associated portions of the panels and the sheeting, and means for securing the molding. strips in position whereby to bind the panels and sheeting to the frame.
3. A knock-down Sign board, comprising a franjic, the side members of which consist in angle iron, a plurality of panels each of which. is adapted to extend between the side frame members, asheeting covering said panels, a molding strip upon the inner side of each frame member, said molding strip being fitted upon the associated end portions of the panels and the sheeting, and bolts for detachably securing the molding strips to the frame whereby to bind the panels and sheeting" to the frame.

A. knock-down sign board, comprising a frame consisting in two side members and two end members, means for detachably securing the side members and end members together, a brace member extending between the end members and secured thereto, a plurality of panels adapted to extend between the side frame members and each panel having a cross member registering with the brace member, straps for securing the cross members of each panel to the brace memher, a sheeting covering the panels, a mold ing strip extending about the inner perimeter of the frame and disposed upon the edges of the sheeting, and means for detachably securing the molding strip to the frame whereby to hold the sheeting in position.
7. A knock-down sign board, comprising a 7 frame consisting in two side members and two end members, means for detachably securing the side members and end members together, a brace member extending between the end members and secured thereto, a plurality of panels adapted to extend between the side frame members and each panel having a cross member registering with the brace member, straps for securing the cross members of each panel to the brace member, a sheeting covering the panels, a molding strip extending about the inner perimeter of said frame and adapted to overlap the sheeting, and means for detachably securing the molding strip to the frame.
