IMPROVEMENT IN BEER AND ALE FAUCETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,447, dated November 11, 1873; application filed September 20, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN DEAsEY, of Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Beer and Ale Faucet, of which the following is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described and then pointed out in the claim.
extending from the inner end to a point a little distance'beyond the cap, through which it projects. F is a collar on it, inside of the cap, to bear against a ring of packing, Gr, to prevent leaking at the hole in the cap, through which the rod projects. H is a spring inside of the tube bearing against the shoulder I of the tube, and against the inner end of the col-- lar to press it against the packing. While the beer is lively and contains gas, the spring may not be needed, as the gas will probably press the rod sufficiently to keep the joint tight, but as this pressure is sometimes lacking the spring is introduced, so that it is ready when needed.
To apply this faucet the plug with which the tap-hole is closed is first driven by a rod and hammer about as far as it can be without letting the beer escape. screwed in up to the plug, and the plug is driven entirely in by a blow on the projection J of the rod, and the faucet is screwed up tight.
The rod is flattened on the sides, as shown at K, Fig. 2, to afford sufficient passage for the beer, and thetube is enlarged in the part containing the spring, both for making room for said spring, and also to allow the beer to flow around the rod freely into the cock. Wood is preferred for the rod, as not being injurious to the beer or injured by it, but other substances may be used.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the capG, packing G, collar F, and spring H, with the rod and the tube, substantially as specified.
