ihe object ci? this invention is provide a strong, dur" le and inexpensive cabinet by the use of? which pies or similar articles ot :food 'may be transported without injury and maintained in a thoroughly sanitary condition. rhe invention seeks to provide a cabinet, the parts oi which may be easily separated When cleaning or repairs may be neces y, and a further object of the invention is to provide a cabinet oit such a construction that a number or" the cabinets may be piled one upon another for transporta-4 tion or storage and will be eectually held against accidental displacement. Other objects Will appear incidentally in the course or the following description and the invention resides in certain novel 'tea-tures which Will be particularly pointed out in the claims following the description.
ln the accompanying drawings- Figure l is a perspective view or" bodirnent ot'my invention;
Fig. 2 is a horizont-al section ot the same;
Fig. 3 is vertical longitudinal section thereof.
lin carrying out the invention, i employ a base which is in the form of an elliptical rim l having straight sides and semi-circular ends and provided on the inner 'faces ot is straight side portions with angle iron brackets 2 which serve as reinforcements to prevent buckling ot the side portions of the rim and also add to the supporting surface. l also secure to the straight side portions ot the base, side Walls or plates 3 which, like the rim, may conveniently be viorrned oit sheet metal so as to avoid undue Weight and expense. rlhese side plates may or otherwise firmly united With the base and each side plate at its upper end is bent in- Wardly to provide an overhanging `llange e. rlhe rim l is provided With a ledge or shoulder 5 and upon the said ledge or shoulderj l secure circular bottom plates 6 which may meet at the center ot the device and are provided each with an annular flange or rih 7. Inner semi-cylindrical Walls S are fitted against trie inner portions oit he flanges 7 and have their straight longitudinal edges be soldered Serial No. 463,413.
vertical reentrant flanges 9 along the ends ot the sidewalls or 3, as shown most clearly in Fig. 2. l rails or rims l0 at the edges circular bottoni plates 6 and these .r serve as guides and retainers lower ends semi-cylindrical doors rlhe doors are mounted for sliding` i v Intent, and it will be readily understood non ret rence to Figs. 2 and 3 that when engage d in i- ,rmed
position each door will co-operate with one'oi the semi-cylindrical Walls E to detine a. cylindrical compartment in which :ire shelves upon whichthe pies or other commodities are placed. ldlhen the door is i open position., it will Within the con- 'avity ot the adjacent semi-cylindrical WalL as clearly shown in Fig. 2. Each door is provided at tree edge with an outwardly projecting 13 which is adapted to be engaged by a spring latch 14.- upoii the 'liront side Wall or plate 3 so that the door will be yieldably held in closed position. rlhe spring latch is preferably formed or conructed to provide an eye or loop l5 at its end and upon the outer side ot the door, ac acent the tree edge thereof7 is a loop 16 which, in the closed position ot the door, Will lie close to the eye l5, as shown in Figs. l and 2. lWhen the cabinet is to be shipped, a sealing wire and tag may be engaged through the adjacent eyes l5 and loops 16 in an ohif'ious manner. i
rEhe upper ends of the compartments are closed by circular covers l? having depend ing riins .i8 at the outer portions of'their edges and having smaller llanges 19 at the inner rtions of the edges to which the upper ends oit the inner Walls 8 may be soldered or otherwise securely fastened. The lips i3 formed atthe outer edges of the doors are cut a'ivay or reduced at their ends.y as shown mosu clearly at 20 in F i. 3. so that the lip or `flange may projet outwardly betvreeii the members l0 and 18 and thereby aid in guiding he door in its movements. rlhe are preferably construct and are provided With reinforcing rims annular flanges 2l at their edges on Jheir under sides so as to guard against buckling and also avoid the liability or the user cutting his hand While placing the commodities within the cabinet or removing them therefrom. Long securing bolts 22 are inserted through the bottom plate 6 and the several shelves as Well as through:` the covers` 117 and-y around these `bolts betweenmv the several shelvesare spacer sleeves 23 whereby the shelves will be supported in proper spaced relation. Nuts 24 aremounted upon the lower ends of the bolts and are adapted to be turned home against the` bot-Y tom plate 6 so as to sec-ure the parts firmly together.
Extending longitudinally of the cabinet upon theC tops-1:7 isa braceplate 25 having` upstanding-lugs 26 at its ends and the innermost bolts122 a'rewinserted through this brace, as willi be-readilyl understoodupon referencetolFigs. l4 andi'. A handle or bail 27 is disposed transversely' of the; device at the center et the same andv has its ends engaged under and secured` to the flanges 4 by soldering or'in any other convenient or preferred manner..`
f It willy be-readily noted that the vertical edges of the front andY rear side walls 3 are disposed upon the transverse diameter of theshelves and, consequently, one-half of each shelfl projects beyond the edges of theI saidz walls; When the door is in closed position, the# shelves and their contents will be entirely enclosed or housed in the compartmentdefined by the door and inner wall 8, aI rim 6 and a cover 17, but,
lugs 26 and handle 27 of a lower cabinet will itwithinthe brackets 2 and circular end portions of` the rims-l of a superposed cabinet? and thereby1 servel to prevent accidental dislodgment lof the latter. It it be desired to` clean` or repair the cabinet, the nuts 24 may be readily removed from their respective bolts and after the bolts have been.` withdrawn the spacing sleeves 23 will, of course, be` released from the shelves and Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new. is:
l. A cabinet comprising an elliptical rim having semi-circularends and straight side 'portions and constituting a base, circular bottom plates secured upon said base, semicylindrical walls erected upon the inner portions oi the said bottom plates, circular covers secured to the upper ends of the semi-cylindrical walls, means extending through the covers and the bottom plates to secure the parts together, circular shelves carried by said securing means, and semicylindrical doors slidably mounted between the covers and the bottom plates and adapted in open position to be housed within the se1ni-cylindrical walls.
2. A cabinet comprising an elliptical rim having semi-circularcnds and straight side portions and constituting a base, circular bottom plates secured upon the endsof said base, straight walls secured to and rising from the straight side portions of the base, Senn-cylindrical walls secured to and rising from the inner edge portions of thecircular bottom plates, said semi-cylindrical walls being disposed between the straight side walls and having their vertical end edges secured to the vertical end edges oi said straight walls7 circular covers secured to the upper ends of the semi-cylindrical walls, semi-cylindrical doors slidablv mounted between the covers and the bottom plates and adapted-y inv open position to be housed within the semi-cylindrical walls,
and interengagi'ng means on the doors and one of the straight walls to hold the doors in open position.
' In testimonyf whereof` I aiiiX my signature.
