vented certain new and useful Improvements in Tank Trucks, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in tank-trucks and its main object is to provide certain improvements in the tank-trucks used for the transportation of liquids, particularly liquid fuels such as oil, gasolene,

etc. (or in any other kind of vehicles), whereby is provided a detachably supplemental frame for such tank-trucks or other class of vehicles enabling them to carry thereon the receptacles, drums, etc., used for retailing the fuel, which receptacles, drums, etc, have been heretofore transported in separate vehicles, which produces large expenses and loss of time, which are obviated by means of our invention.

An object of the invention is toprovide in combination with the said frame members articulated thereto permitting to form a removable bed on the tank of the truck .or other vehicle so that after the tank-truck may have delivered in its travel the drums or receptacles carried thereby it can be converted in a common truck capable of transporting in its return trip any class of merchandise, which is highly advantageous in view of the fact that such tank-trucks usually travel long distances and owing to their actual construction they can not be used for other transportation than that to which they are specially designed.

The invention is described with reference to the figures of the. annexed drawings, in which:

each one at its heads near the upper endof two vertical posts 3 whose lower ends are bent inwards as shown in 3 having bores 3 through which are inserted bolts or screws 11 which secure the posts 3 to the sides 10 of the tank supporting frame 5 of the tank-truck 1, the boards being thus placed one in front of the other one at the same height, the same being secured together by means of horizontal bars 12 passing through bores 13 in the body of each table 2 and its ends being secured out of boards 2 by nuts 14 screwed on the threaded ends of said bars 12. Boards 2 are provided at the center of its lower edge with a large concave recess 4 and at its upper edge are provided with a plurality of spaced apart smaller concave recesses 6, the lower recess 4 being adapted to the contour of the upper part of tank 5.

On the upper ends of posts 3 of each frame A, B and C are hinged as illustrated in 65 boards 7 formed by slabs arranged one alongside the other secured together by strips 8 fixed to the slabs 7 by means of screws or nails 9 and which boards on being turned up vfall in and bear on the upper edge of boards 2 as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings comprising half of a bed completing a bed with the boards of the opposite side of each frame which bed is disposed on tank 5 of the tank-truck l and on being raised and allowed to fall down the boards 7 hang outwardly to the posts 3 of each frame being secured by means of an eye bolt 16 fixed toa side of the supporting frame 5 which passes through hole 16 at the lower part of each board 7 inserting then in each eye bolt a pin 15 pending from a small chain 15 outwardly fixed to the board. Accordingly, both bed members 5 being hung at each side of frames A, B and C and secured thereat, the tank-truck can be used for the transportation of merchandise of elongated or cylindrical form such as the drums and receptacles used for containing gasolene, etc., which drums or receptacles 17 will bear its heads on the recesses 6 of boards 2' formin the headers of each frame A, B and G being placed longitudinally with respect to the truck forming a pyramid as illustrated with full and dotted lines in Fig. 2, which is firmly. secured with ropes. Once the delivery of the receptacles or drums 17 is completed and the supporting boards 2 being thus free of them, it will be only required to turn up the bed members 7 letting them fall in bearing on the upper side edge of boards 2 forming togethera bed on tank 5, which is capable of receiving any class of merchandise.

It is obvious that many changes can be made in the construction set forth, such as for instance to use larger number of supporting frames or to change the construction of the same without departing from the spirit of the invention, wherefore We do not limit our invention to the particular embodiment described in the foregoing specification and illustrated in the annexed drawings, but desire that our Letters Patent may protect all that which may fall within the scope of the appended claims.

What we claim is 1. In tank-trucks, supports spaced apart arranged on the tank of the truck adapted to receive a load longitudinally placed thereon.

2. In tank-trucks the arrangement of verof the truck supporting above the tank of the truck bearing elements for the ends of a load of elongated or cylindrical form arranged longitudinally with respect to the truck.

3. In tank-trucks, the arrangement of a plurality of supporting frames fixed to the supporting frame of the tank of the truck and formed by vertical posts which hold a board between its upper ends above the tank transversally thereto, said boards being provided at its side upper ed es of recesses serving as bearing to the en s of a load of elongated or cylindrical form longitudinally placed on the truck.

In tank-trucks, a frame comprising two pairs of vertical posts arranged one in front of the other one and fixed at its lower ends to the supporting frame of the tank of the truck and fixing between its upper ends the heads of a board which presents centrally with its lower side edge a large concave recess adapted to the upper part of the tank and at its side upper edge a plurality of smaller concave recesses s aced apart adapted to receive between eac recess of the two boards the ends of an elongated or cylindrical load longitudinally placed with respect to the truck the boards being secured together by means of reinforcing horizontal bars.

5. In tank-trucks, the combination with frames each one of which comprise vertical posts fixed at its lower end to the supporting frame of the tank of the truck and between whose upper ends are fixed boards arranged transversely to the truck one in front of the other and which present at its lower side edge a recess adapted to the upper part of the tank of the truck and at its upper side edge corresponding recesses adapted to receive between same a load of elongated or cylindrical form longitudinally arranged with respect to the truck and the boards being secured together by means of horizontal reinforcing bars, of boards articulated to the upper ends of the posts at each side in each frame, adapted so that on being turned up and bearing against the upper edge of the transverse boards of each frame may form together a bed and securing means for the boards pending at each side of the frame.
