GEORGE WASHINGI'ON GILMAN, 0F JANESVILLE, WISCOSIN, ASSIGNOR TO AMERI- CAN METALS C0., OF JANESVILLE, WISCONSIN, A. CORPGRATION 0F WISCONSIN.
PRICE MARKER.
Application filed July 5,
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE WASHINGTON GILMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Janesville', in the county of Rock and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Price Marker, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in? price markers, and it pertains more particularly to a price marker especially adapted for use in connection with pencils, fountain pens, and the like.
It is one of the objects of the invention to provide a price marker in which the marking element is so constructed that it depends upon the construction of the article with which it is used for its operation.v
It is a further object of the invention to f provide a price marker which lmay be removed ai'ter it has served its purposev and used from time to time on various articles of a similar nature.
With the above and other objects in view,
reference is had to the accompanying draw-l in s, in which.-
igure 1 is a view in elevation of a pencil having a price `markerl thereon constructed in accordance with the present invention;
F ig. 2 is a' detail perspective view of the price marker shown attached to a pencil;
Fig. 3 is a detail view in elevation of a fountain pen with a slightly modified form of price marker attached thereto;
Fig. 4 is a detail' perspective view of the marker used in connection with the fountain pen and shown in Fig. 3. Referring more particularly to the drawings the reference character 11 designates a pencil, andl said pencil is of the type which has two spaced beads 12. The reference character 13 designates a band of resilient metal or other resilient material, and said band is of a width4 substantially equal to the space between the beads 12. This band 13 has a plurality of numerals 14 thereon to designate the price of the pencil when "ment of the price marker relativ 1922. serial No. 572,791'.
the band is positioned thereon, it being understood that different bands may carry different price values as desired.
In use this form of the invention is adapted to be snapped about the pencil 11, between the beads 12, as shown in Fig. 1.
When the pencil has been sold, the band is expanded by spreading the ends 16 thereof and 1s removed from the pencil for future use.
In that form of the invention shown in Flgs. 3 and 4, the reference character 17 designates a fountain pen, and 18 designates lug 23 may be employed if desired, depending upon the type of article with Whichthe price marker band is adapted for @Q the price marker band. In this embodiment From the foregoing it is apparent that. l
the present invention provides a new and improved form of price marker for pencils, fountain pens, and the like, which will be securely retained in position upon the pencil or pen, and, at the same time, may be readily removed when the pencil or pen has been sold, for subsequent use upon another article of this character.
What is claimed is:
In combination withv a fountain pen, a
portion of which is provided with air vent holes, a price marker, said price marker .comprising a band of resilient material adapted to ,embrace the fountain pen, and an integral projectioncarried by said band of resilient material and adapted to be received within one of the air vent openings of the pen to prevent longitudinal movel to the pen. t v
GEORGE WASHINGTN GILIAN.
