IMPROVEMENT m mes FOR PRESSING HATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,262, dated November 4, 1873; application filed September 30, 1S73.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JASON DESPER, of Barre, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dies for Pressing Hats; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in dies for pressing hats; and it consists in casting the die with a suitable groove around its top or side, in which the steam-pipe is placed, and then secured in po sition by pouring some melted metal around it, so as to fill up the groove flush with the side or top of the die.
The accompanying drawings represent my invention.
(0 represents a common metal hat-die, east in one solid piece, and having the groove or recess 0 formed around its top, side, or hottom, in which the steam-pipe e is placed.
Around this pipe is poured any suitable metal,
or other material, until the groove is filled up flush with the side of the die, thus practically making the pipe a part of the die, so that when a current of steam is passed through the pipe an even and uniform heat is imparted to the die. As the metal which is poured into the-groove around the pipe is preferably soft and easily melted, not only is the cost of the die ehea-pened by this construction, but in case the pipe should burst in cold weather, it can ing secured in position by filling up the groove with molten metal or other suitable material, substantially as shown and described.
