WILLIAM: ARIZI'OLD HEATHER AND JAMES STEITHIES, 01*? 'WILIESLO'VY, NEAR IYIAITCI'IES- TEE, ENGLAND, ASSIGNORS TO FAIRE BBO LAND.
(it CO. LIMITED, OF LEICESTER, ENG-- STRING AND LIKE FASTENER.
Application filed Getober 4, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that we, WILLIAM ARNOLD MATHER, of The Rowans, Hawthorn Lane, d/ ilmslow, iear hilanchester, in the county of Lancaster, England, and Janns SMIn-nns, also of Wilmslow, near Manchester, in the county at La caster, Engiand, subjects of the King or Great Britain and Ireland, have invented certain new and useful improvements Relating to String and Like Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object the production of improved string and like fasteners for the tying or binding together oi: leaves or papers, for closing the mouths of or like receptacles and for other SQTV-V ices.
The invention comprises the arrangement and combination of parts as hereinafter par ticularly described and as illustrated in the accompan ing explanatory drawings.
Referring to the said drawings Figure 1 illustrates a fastening device suitable for closing the mouth of abag or securing a roll or bundle of papers or other articles.
Figure 2 shows the improved fastening device combined with a stiffener or supportfor papers, whilst Figure 3 gives an example of a slip noose type of fastening made in accordance with this invention.
The same reference letters in the different views indicate the same or similar parts.
The improved device consists of a single length of cord or tape a, the two ends of which are threaded through one or more india rubber washers (Z in opposite directions, as shown. Knots 6 may be tied at the ends Serial No. 505,295.
of the strings or the like to form abutments which prevent the said ends being pulled through the washers. The papers or the like to be bound are placed in the loop made by the washer or washers on the cord and the washers are adjuster in position till the cord grips the papers. The washers remain securely in such position, due to their bindine; upon the cords. Pulling upon the ends of the cord ensures the readjustment of the position of the washers.
The binding device may be used alone or may be ecured upon a flat cardboard f or similar stiffener, as in Figure 2, to carry or sup iiort flat pa aers, or around the mouth of a bag or other receptacle, according to the service for which it is required. in the arrangement shown in Figure 3, the string is looped around an article or articles and binds against the washers. The device forms a noose which is tightened in a manner simiiar to that previously described and is useful when it is impossible to pass the loop over the end of the article to he held.
We claim:
1. In string and like fasteners, in combination. a looped. cord, a resilient grip washer, the ends of said cord being threaded through the washer in opposite directions, and abutments at the cord ends, as set forth.
2. In string and like tas eners as claimed in claim 1, a stiii'ener within the looped cord, as set forth.
Tn testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification.
WILLIAlVl ARNOLD MATHER. JAMES SMITHIES.
