IMPROVEMENT IN ATTACHMENTS FOR SODA-FOUNTAINS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 14,234, dated November 4, 1873; application filed October 25, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known-that I, Osons F. STEDMAN, of IVesttieltL-in the county of Chautauqua and State of N ew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Soda-Fountains; vand I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this speciiication.

The nature of my invention relates to an improvement in attachments for the cocks of soda-fountains; and it consists in, rst, a nut which screws into the top of the dischargenozzle, and a compressible rubber band, which, as the nut is forced down upon it, expands inwardly, so as to grasp the sides of the tube or pipe inserted into the top of the nozzle, so as to not only bind the nozzle to it, but to form a water and air tight joint; second, the combination, with a compound cock for sodafountains, of a long small tube, which serves the purpose of conducting the gas to the bottom of the tumbler, all of which will be more fully described hereafter.

The accompanying drawings represent my invention.

a represents a nozzle, to be attached to the draft-arm of a soda-fountain, which has a threaded recess formed in its top to receive the nut c. In the bottom of' the recess is placed a ring of rubber, e, which, as the nut is screwed down upon it, expands inwardly,so as to contract the opening in the head of the nozzle, and grasp the sides of the pipe or tube extending down into it, so as to securely bind the nozzle to it, and at the same time form a tight joint.

All of the common cheaper soda-fountains are provided with a simple arm and cock, from which the soda is drawn in only one kind of a stream, which gives a large amount of froth and foam and little water.

By means of the simple attachment above described, the nozzle a can be secured to the most common goose-neck, and all kinds of arms and tubes, and thus form a compound cock, through which may be drawn either water or foam, as may be desired.

In the lower part of the nozzle is centered the valve i, which has a small opening through its center, and the long tube g secured to its under side. This tube is long enough to extend down to the bottom of the tumbler in which the soda is served, for the purpose of carrying the gas down below the water, so that it will have to ascend upward through it in escaping. Near the top of the tube is fastened an arm, l, which serves to lift the valve upward from its seat, so as to let the water escape freely around its sides, and thus form a double discharge. 4

Having thus described my invention, I claiml. As an attachmentfor the draft-arm of a soda-fountain, the nozzle a, nut c, and rubber band e, in combination with the discharge-pipe, substantially as set forth.

2. An attachment for the draft-arm of a soda-fountain, consisting of a nozzle, a, a valve, and an extended tube, which serves to conduct t-he gas and soda-water down to the bottom of the tumbler, substantially as specified.

3. The combination of a compound valve for soda-fountains with the extended draft-tube g, substantially as shown and described.

4. The combination of a nozzle, a., nut c, band e, valve, and tube, arranged for operation substantially as set forth.
