Application filed February Y, 1921.
Z '0 cZZ to 71 04)]. i/; may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN hlnnrotr'r tlownn, a citizen of the United Fatates, residing; at (West, in the county of l i eld and State or": Colorado, have invented new and. uset'ul linprovements in ltl eans ior Connecting? Fitove pipe Elections, of which the following is a specification;
My present invention has referenceto means tor connecting; stove pipe sections 01 supporting the same inlongitudinal align nient.
lt ly object is to produce a simple means for accomplishing," this purpose comprising a hooked member carried by and projecting); outward from one of the pipe sections and designed to he engaged by a. spring jaw carri ed by the other section.
it further object is to produce means for connecting the sections oil? a stove pipe comprising intcr'eno aging spring elements car riod by both of the sections which snap into engagement when brought together and which effectively hold the sections against either outward or inward longitudinal movement and also prevent accidental turning of one of the sections on the other, but permittine, such turning when manual force is eniploy so that the interengaging means may he brought away from each other and the sections thus readily disassembled.
'lhc :l'ioiren'o'ingg,and other objects which will appear as the nature oi. the invention better understood, may be accoinplishcd by a construction, combination and opera.- tivc arrangement it parts. such as is disclosed by the drawings which accompany and which :liorin part of this application.
in the drawings l inurc 1. is an approxiinately central lougritudiual sectional view through a. stove pipe section. connected to a thinihle in accordance w i th this invention.
l iofure it is a perspective view oi the aw member which is secured to one of the pipe sections.
l igrure i) "is a similar vie-w oil the hook member which is secured to the other pipe section.
l l hile it is to he understood that the inn provernent is employed for connecting stove pipe sections to holdv the same in alignment,
l have, in Figure 1 of the drawings, shown one of the pipe sections 1 in the nature of a thimhle. and has its inner edge flanged to contact with theinner wall of the chimney .while the name is formed with bendable lugs 2 to contact with the outer face of the chimney, thus holding the thimhle against longitudinal movement through the pipe open- 111g.
Secured in the socket end of a pipe sec tion 6 are flat metal straps 3. Each of the straps has its end which projects through the socket 5 bent upon itself to provide the same with a hook 4;.
in the thirnble 1 there are secured flat metal straps 5' each of which having its outer end bent to provide a hook 7. Each strap 5 is approximately centrally bent upon itself, so that each strap is formed with. an overlying portion 6, which projects a suitable distance beyond. the hook 7. his projecting end is curved by virtue of its contact with the hook, the said curved end being indicated by the numeral 8.
The strips 3 and 5 being constructed of metal are naturally resilient, and when the mouth 5 of the pipe section 6 is inserted in the thilnhle 1, the said pipe section is given turn to bring the hook a of the strips 3 beneath the flared portions 8 of the outer members 6 of the strips 5' and in engagement with the hook 7' on the ends of the said strips. The portions 8 are in the nature of spring jaws and exert a tension against the hooks 4: of the strips 8, holding-.1 the said hooks 4: in engagement with the hooks 7, and thus sustain the pipe sections 6 in proper longitudinal alignment with the thimhle 1.
l-tllaving described the invention, 1 claim The combination with. two stove pipe sections, one having resilient strips with a hook at their outer ends projecting); out of one end of the said section. the other having straps with a. hooked end engaging; the hooked end. projecting; from the first roentioned section, and a resilient strip hearing on each pair of locked hooks for holding; the same in. engagement.
ln testimony whereof l: attic: my signature.
