v.ments in Crude-Oil Burners, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide arelatively simple and efficient burner adapted for the consumption of crude oil as a fuel in connection with boiler furnaces and the like and having means for regulating with facility the richnejs ofthe mixture or the relative proportions of oil and air or its equivalent combustion sup-- porting agent to fulfill the requirements of the burner and suit the characteristics of the particular fuel which in use, and to this end the invention consists in a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the drawing, it being; understood that changes inform and proportion may be resorted to within the terms of the claims without (leparting' from the principles involved.

The burner consists essentially of a shell 10, preferably cylindrical in form, upon which is adjust-ably fitted a nozzle 11 having a porcelain or equivalent refractory lining 12 of which the inner end is enlarged as shown at 13 to snugly fit the bore of the shell, said lining thus serving to define a cylindrical outlet 14: having: an inner tube or funnel-shaped mouth 15 into which projects the exteriorly tapered or conical fuel discharge nipple 1.6 supported by webs 17 in the main shell or casing; 10. Con nected with this nipple and disposed axi ally in the shell or casing is the feed pipe 18 fitted at its rear end with a removable plug 19 to facilitate cleaning the nipple to remove any gummy or other accumulations in the outlet thereof, and in communication laterally with the feed tube is the supply pipe 20 for the fuel, extending through a suitable stuffing box 21supported by the wall of the shell or casing. lnteriorly at its rear end the shell or casing is preferably" threaded as at 22 for attachment to a suit able pipe (not shown) by which the combustion supporting agent such as air, steam or i the equivalent thereof maybe supplied.

The axial movement of the nozzle relative to the fuel outlet nipple, owing to the co-. operative relation ofthe funnel-shaped inlet of the passage 1 1 in the nozzle and the tapered. or conical form of the nipple, serves to vary the area of the annular passage defined bysaid funnelshaped inlet and conical nozzle, to regulate the supply of the combustion supporting agent to the passage in. the nozzle to suit the conditions under which the burner is being used and the peculiarities of the fuel which is employed.

1. A crude oil burner having a cylindrical casing provided at its rear end with an inlet for combustion supporting agent, a fuel feed tube disposed axially in the casing and provided with an GXlJGIlOIlY COIIlCHl discharge nipple, a nozzle having a shell adjustably mounted upon the casinn; by a fast threaded connection to provide for longitudinal movement of the nozzle with re spect to the casing, and a handle or grip carried by the nozzle and provided with a yielding latch, the casing being: provided with means for engagement by said. latch to preclude relati e movement of the nozzle and casing after adjustment of the latter.
