WILLIAM C. KISNER, OF WATSON, WEST VIRGINIA.
FOWL-IDENTIFICA'IION' DEVICE.
7 Application filed May 4, 1922. ,Serial No. 558,328.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM C. KisNER, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of \Vatson, county of Marion, and State of Vest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fowl-Identification Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates broadly to fowl markers, and more specifically to an imprinting pad for the feet of domestic fowls.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a pad for attachment to the feet of domestic fowls which not only serves to of the pad, preferably at a point wherein carry a designating number or character by means of which such fowls may be identified. but also affords means whereby an lmprint of such designating character may be applied to a strip of paper as such fowl leaves the nest, thereby to enable an attendant to maintain a record of the fowls which have occupied the nest. y A further object is to provide a' device of the character mentioned which has a form that insures its being at all times held properly in place on the foot of a fowl to which. it is attached.
In describing the invention in detail, reference is herein had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention, illustrating its application; and
Figure 2 is an enlarged plan view of th same in its blank, or open, form.
The entire device which constitutes the present invention, except the clasp by means ofwhich it is secured in place and the imprinting character, is made of a single piece of flexible sheet fabric, preferably rubber,
and it comprises a band or anklet 1 carrying at one end a readily bendable attaching hook or clasp 2 adapted to be engaged with aslot 3 provided at the opposite end, whereby said anklet is securely fastened in place about a fowls leg, indicated in dotted lines at 4.,
foot ofv a fowl, is designed to be directed forward beneath the foot and to be held in place by the middle forwardly directed toe of said foot, indicated in dotted-lines at 7 in Fig. 1, said ring portion 6 being turned or inclined upward and having said toe directed therethrough. Notches 8 may be provided in the opposite lateral edges of the pad 5 adjacent to thering 6 for facilitating the more or less abrupt fiexure necessitated it will directly underlie the ball of the foot to which the device is attached, is an imprinting device comprising a base 12 carrying in relief thereon a rubber type num her or character, as shown at 13.
It iscontemplated that the device herein before described shall be employed for imprinting upon a strip of paper the character 13 borneby the pad 5, it being designed that an inking pad and such strip of paper shall be appropriately located to be successively stepped upon by the fowl as the latter departs from a nest, as is disclosed in my companion application, Serial No. 558,327.
A character 14: corresponding with the character 13 may be borne by the anklet for admitting of ready identification of the fowl.
l Vhat is claimed is- 1. A fowl identification device comprising an anklet, a tongue-like pad depending from said anklet for underlying the foot of the fowl, means for attaching the endof said pad to the foot, and an imprinting character carried by said pad.
2. A fowl identification device compris ing an anklet, a tongue-like pad depending from said anklet for underlying the foot of the fowl, said pad having a ring-like the fowl, said pad having a ring-like terminal through which a forwardly-extending toe of the foot is directed, an apertured 111g disposed for having the hind toe directed therethrough and an imprinting character carried by said pad.
4. A few] identification device comprising an anklet of flexible material, a clasp for 10 for the foot of the fowl, and to have a toe of such foot directed through said tenninai, and an imprinting character borne by said tongue. y
In testnncny whereof I aflix my signature in presence 01: two subscribing: \YltIlQSSOS.
