LEON GSCHWIND, or
WASHING Application filed June 16,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEoN GSCI-IWINI). a citizen of the. United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning: and State of Ohio, havein vented certain new and useful Improvements'in ashing Machines, of which the following is a speci fieation. I i
My invention relates to improvements in YOUNGSTOWN, 'omo,
MACHINE.
1920. -Seria1' No; 389,412.
the basin element'being in normal showing the dish-washing receptacle and my mechanism in applied position, with the basin member inverted and occupying the.
washing machines and refers particularly position in which it is placed when themto a machine adapted for use in washing dishes,- although it may be used in cleansing garments or for any other purpose where it would perform the desired function.
The main object of my invention is the provision of'a structure which may be used in connection with the sink or basin emvention is used as a dish-washing machine, and
Fig. 4 represents an elevation of the driving, mechanism or operating unit of my invention. I 7
Referring by numeral .to the drawings, in which similar numerals are employed to "ployed in a residence or apartment to designate the sameparts in all of the views:
adapt such sink orbasin for use of myimprovements to enable a quick and thorough washing of dishes or fol-other purposes, and which will .not interfere with the usuahpurposes of the basin or sink. 7
Another object of my invention is the 25- provisionof a mechanism. capable ofread'y flange application, with slight modification, to
sinks and basins ingeneral-use,,and which.
'may be. operated by hand or by power to quickly clean the crockery or other objects. found necessary. i q I I Another. object of my invention is the provision of a mechanism of the character and for the purposesstated, which will be of simple, durable and inexpensive construction, which will be small and compact in size topermit installation in a very small space, and which will prove eflicient and practical in-every particular.
With these ends in view, my invention The numeral 1 designates the back wall, 2 designates the basin structure. and 3 (Les;
ignates a depending chamber or receptacle formed lntegral with the back wall '1, and
provided with an annular seat 4, to receive,-
when the basin is in normal position, the of the basin, as most clearly seen in Fig. 1.
This construction provides a practical basin for the usual purposes, while the back wall is formed with the depending chamber or receptacle, such chamber or receptacle being provided'with .a drain or outlet 6 and with a central shaft-opening 7, provided with a surrounding threaded portion 8,-
while mounted within the receptacle and supported above the bottom. thereof is the dish-receivingbasket or member 8.
Upon the under side of the receptacle in suitable ways orsupports 9, is mounted the base 10, of a suitable motor 11, whose driv- 40 consists of a mechanism embodying novel ing shaft 12, carries a gear 13. meshing with features of construction .and combination of parts, substantially shown, described and particularly defined and distinguished by the claim. j
The construction in detail and the operation of my improvement,-. as well as its" many advantages, will befreadily understood from the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents vertical sectional view of the novel form of basin in connection with. which my mechanism is emthe large gear 14, on the shaft 15,.bearing in the yoke-shaped depending hanger or bracket 16. said shaft being disposed horizontally and carrying upon its inner end the small bevel pinion 1T. meshing with the bevel pinion 18. on the vertical shaft 19, suchshaft having its lower portion 19, bearing in the bracket, and its upper portion bearing in the threaded cap 20, and the opening of the basin receptacle, while said.
upper end is formed with a squared portion 22, to receive the agitator 21-, the operation of which upon the rotation of the shaft effects the cleansing of the dishes contained in the basket, as will be readily understood. In use the basin proper is inverted, as shown in Fig. 3, and a suitable amount of hot Water is placed in the receptacle with the dishes or other objects to be cleaned being in the basket provided for such purpose, the motor driving the shaft and rotating the agitator, causing the hot water to be circulated throughout the entire basket and cleansing thoroughly the dishes or objects therein.-
' It will be readily understood that a motor of any proper kind may be employed, or the mechanism may be driven by hand, and
in either event the machine will operate in a practical and effective manner, and such a mechanism will commend itself as highly useful and desirable in homes or apart ments, as well as in other situations;
I claim:
In a mechanism of the characterlde scribed, the combination with a receptacle having its bottom formed with a central opening and ways adjacent said opening, a shaft mounted in said opening, a base carrying a motor and fitting in the Ways On the bottom of the receptacle, a yokedepending from said receptacle and forming a mounting for said shaft, and gearing connectingthe motor and said shaft.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
LEON GSGHWIND.
