ANDREAS ANDREASEN, OE BROOKLEZ'N, NEW] YORK.
BROOIl/I ANIS IvIOI I-IANGER.
;A.pplication fi1ed. August 31, 1922. Serial N0. 535389.
Be it knovvn that I, A.NDRIL \S A-.:;nnnxsn:r an applicant for ci-tizenship of th United States, being still a subject oi tl1e King of Norway, residing ab Brool;lyn in the county of Kings und Stute 016 New York, have inv'811U-3Cl certain new and useiiul Improveznents in Broom and Mop Hangers otf which the iollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a hnnge1 f0i brooms, mops, 01 the 1ilze a-nd it has for an object t0 provide a convenientund inexpensive device adapted for mounting upon tl1e Wall and capable o1 Teady gripping engagement Wih', and disengagemen from, tl1e handle of the broom 01 mop.
F0r further comprehension of the inven tion, and of the objeccs anal advantages thereof, reference Will be had 'to the :Eollowing description and accompanying drawings, and 130 the appended claims in which the various novel features 0f the invention are more particularly Set forth.
Fig. 1 of tlie drawings is a detail perspective view showing my improved lu1nger Wih a b1001n suspended thereiro1n.
Fig. 2 is a plan view showing a 1nodified uonstruction of tl1e hanger.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section 011 the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
As embodied in Fig. 1 01 tl1e drawings 1ny improved hanger is formed tl1om a single piece 0f sheet metal and. consists of a plato 10 of generally rectangular shape which n1ay be secured t0 21 suitable Wall by one 01' more screws 11 passed therethrough. Formed integral With the ends of this plate am zums 12 which project forwardly a 21 sligght inclination towmd one another, and are Ehen bent back toward the plates in the form 0I' fingers 13, tl1ese finger's also inclining t0ward one another with the fips ihereof close to rhe plate 10. A resiliant crotvh is ihus :Eormed between the fingels 13 in vvhich the handle 15 of Ehe broo1n or mop is engaged und from whioh it nmy madily be disengaged whon it is desired to use the broom or mop.
In Figs 3 and 4 1 have shown a i'u1thel clevelopment o1 the invention in which a pair of rigid arms 20 a1e projected from a plato 21 adapted to loe screwedto a Wall. T0 the forward ends of these arms 20 are hinged other anns 252 which extend rearwardly to ward the plate 21.
T0 the uppe1; edges of these arme 22 a1e,
hinged as 23 the leaves 24 Which normally incline upwardly towa1d one another. The iree edges of diese leaves are formed nea1 their rear edges wit-h co-operating arcuate recesses 25 in= Wh10l1 ehe sides of the handle of the broon1 01 1nop 211e roceived, these edges inclining away from one another toward the forward ends of the leaves.
These leaves 21 are normally hold in upwa1dly -inclined position by 1neans of flat springs 27 secured at one end to the arms 22 and l1aving die leaves rest-ing on their uppar ends, daher spri'ngs 28 engaging the top sides of the le2wes t0 ies1st upward swinging movement thereof. The arms 22 are yieldingly hold against n1ovement away from one another by means 0'f flat springs 30 which are fixed at one end to the plate 21 and overlap the ends of 13116 arms.
In using this type of hanger the handle is pushed between the leaves 24 and rests 011 the edges thereof. T0 remove the broo1n, rnop, 01' other article th'e same is pulled downwardly, causing the 2LFII1S 22 so swing away f101n one anothe1, the leaves 24 swinging down past 21 horizontal position, parmitting tl1e handle to be dmwn down therebetween.
Having thus described my invention what 1 clain1 as new and desire t0 protec by Let ters 1atent of the United States is as follows:
1. A hanger 0f the typo specified comprising a plate, rigid arms projecting; forwardly therefron1, hingod arms mounced 011 said rigid ar1ns and extending rearwardly to ward the plate, leaves 1"0r supgorting an a1- ticle hinged t0 the upper edges 0f said sec- 0I1d mentioned ar1ns, und springs holding said leaves in osition inclining upwarclly toward one another.
2. A hanger of the typo spevified compris in;; a plate, rigid anns projecting forwardly thereirom hiii @d arms mounted on said 1i 2ji l ar1ns und extending rea1wardly towa.xrd die plate le:ives :Eoi: supporting an article hinged 130 tl1e uppor edg'es of said socond ment-ioned ar1ns anal springe holding said leaves in Position inolining upwardly toward one another, and springs -3 .ieldulnglgholding the said hinged arme against 1nove1nent away from one another.
8. A hanger of the type specified comprising a plate', rigid ain1s projecting forwardlytherefrom, hinged arms nlounted on said rigid ar1ns and extenoling rearwardly toward edges 0f said hinged arms, the said 1eaves hzwing 1ecesses formed in their free edges a1; their rear ends, the said free edges diverging a'way from 0ne another toward their forward ends, o-opemting springs engaging the upper zu1d lower faces 01. said leaves to hold the1n in Position inclining upwardly toward 0ne another, and springs engaging said hinged arme; to resist swinging m0ve- 1ne11t thereof away from 0ne another.
In testimon whereof I have afiixed my signature.
ANDBEAS ANDREASEN.
