Parleur carrera EUGENE F. BEEBE, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
CLOTHES WRINGER.
Application filed February 5, 1920. Serial No. 356,477.
T 0 all whomjt may conce/ot.'
Be it known that I, EUGENE F. Bnnn, a citizen ot' the` United States, resident oi Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes VVringers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to clothes wringers and particularly to a releasing device whereby the pressure of the upper roll may be instantly released and the rolls allowed to separate in case the operator catches a finger or a portion ot the hand between the rolls or it is desired to withdraw a garment that may have been inserted between the rolls.
A further and particular object is to provide a releasing device which will be simple and positive in its action and while particularly adapted Jfor a metal trame wringer may be used with wringers ot any other type.
rlhe invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
1n the accompanying drawings forming part of this speciiication,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section on the line 1-1 of Figure 2,
-Figure 2 is a plan view of the wringer,
Figure 3 is a similar view, showing the parts in their released position,
Figure t is a sectional view on the line 4-4'01" Figure 2,
Figure 54 is a sectional view on the line 5 5 01E-Figure 2,
Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Figure 2,
Figure 7 is a sectional view showing the manner of mounting the wing nuts on the tension studs on the wringer.
Figure 8 is a detail view showing the means for connecting the sections of the wing nuts. y
ltn the drawing, 2 represents the frame of the wringer, having brackets 3 provided vwith clamping bolts 4 by means of which the wringer is mounted on the wall of a tub in the usual way, as by means ot a swinging arm. 'llhe trame 2 is provided with upwardly projecting studs 5 having threaded upper ends and upon these studs I mount the arm 6 lfor the lower roll 7 and the arm 8 for the upper roll 9. Said arms have a bearing 10, one upon the other, on the opposite side ot the studs 5 from the rolls. Compression springs 11 are mounted on the studs 5 and seated at their lower ends on the arms 8 and when the-se springs are put under compression the rolls will be forced together to squeeze the material between them and yieldingly resist separation. The shaft of the lower roll is provided with a gear 12 driven from a suitable source ot power and a sleeve 13 having a pin and slot connection 14- with the lower roll is mounted to slide toward and from the hub ot' the gear 12 and has a clutch connection 15 therewith. When this sleeve is withdrawn. the lower roll is stationary and is driven when the sleeve is projected into engagement with the clutch in the hub ot the gearing.
A late 16 is provided, having holes 17 thereln in which the threaded ends of the studs 5 are free to slide and cone-shaped walls 18 are formed on said plate around said holes to engage the correspondingly shaped surfaces 19 on the wing nut sections 20'and 20a which are interiorly threaded to engage the threads of the studs 5 so that when they are revolved on the studs to compress the springs, a downward pressure will be exerted on the rolls to increase the pressure on the garments between them. The plate 16 is provided at each end with wings 21 and 22 pivoted at 23 on the plate 16 and having curved inner faces 24 adapted to encircle the sections of the wing nuts and hold them in interlocking engagement with the threads of the studs.
` For the purpose oit checking the movement of the lower roll, 1 prefer to provide the bar 27 with a downwardly projecting eX- tension 39 having a fork 40 to engage the clutch sleeve 13 and move it back and forth on the shaft 41 of the driving gear 12 to lock or release the lower roll. When the bars are returned to their locking position, the clutch sleeve will also be moved to lock the lower roll.
