UNlTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FLASH-LIGHT nrrnnne'ros.
Anplication filed October 22, 1821.
To (171 n /mm. it may concern.
be it known that I. Evnnnnn L. JonNsoN, a eitizen ol' the United States, and residing at l atrhogiw. L. 1.. in the county of Suffolk and f tute of New York. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flash- Light iipparalus, of which the following a suecilication. such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to tlasl'l-light apparatus and particularly to the tlash bag or .aldnet of apparatus oi this class. and the object. of the invention is to provide an improved bag supporting frame which is so ennstructed as to permit of the 't'olding or rolla 'isingg; oi said i'rameivork and the extension oi the same into an oblong position;
a further objert being to provide means for 7 receiving and reniovinn the dust or ash ot the explosive medium employed and which collects in said flash bag or cabinet; and llll these and other objects in view the invention consists in an improved apparatus ol' the Mass r-ipeeilied \vhioh is simple in instruction and etlirient in mean and which is eonstru -ted as lu-reinatter described and r lainled.
The iinention l'ully disi'losed in the following; speeiiieution, oi which the illft'fllllpanyirn; drawing;- forms a part. in Which the separate parts ot my improvement are designated by suitable reference charm-tors in each of the views. and in which Fig. l is a back view of the bag or cabinet showingthe framework thereof in an extended position;
Fig. 2' a partial section on the line a ain Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 a plan view of the construction shown in Fig. i;
Fig. 4 a view similar to Fig. l but showng; the parts in a different position and \i iih part ot the construction emitted;
Fig. 3 a partial section on the line .ii ol' Fig. l on an enlarged scale: and
Fig. {3 :1 partial section on the line (i t; ot' Fig. 2 on an enlarged scale.
in the drav-iinu' l have shown at 10 a fla h bag; or cabinet toinposed of our suitable flexible fireproof material. and said has. in the i-onstruetion shown. is approximately triangular in term in cross section and romprising a back wall 11. a top will 12. side Serial No. 509,673.
Walls 13 and an angularly arranged front Wall 14. the bottom edges of the back wall 11 and front wall 1.4-. are secured to a longitudinal base 15 provided With an a ertilre 16 which opens upwardl into the ag 10 and outwardly through tie bottom of said base, and a suitable shutter device 17 mounted inthe base 15 is adapted to normally close the aperture 16, said shutter being operated by means of a crank 18 extendin through one end Wall of the base 15. as shown in Fig. 6. The base 15 is provided with a removable cover plate 19 secured in position by catch or hook devices 20 at the ends thereof, and said cover plate is provided with an aperture 21 which registors with the aperture 16 in the base 15. and the bottom of the rover late 20 is pro vided with a sack 22 preferab y composed of flexible material.
The bag 10 is adapted to be supported in the position shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the drawing; by a suitable framework 23 vomprising, in the (:onstruetion shown. 1 central frame member a top frame member 2.1 and a bottom frame member 2(5. The frame members 24, 25 and 26 extend longitudinally of the back wall ll of the but: when in use, and said bank wall is secured thereto, and the bottom member 26. in the construction shown, is formed by the base .15 of the bag 10, and two movahl frame members 27 are pivotalhmounted in connection with the frame member 26 or base 15 as shown at 28 and are adapted to be extended vertically at the opposite sides or' the frame 23 and to be held in sueh position by clamps 29 which frietionally engage said frame members 27, and said clamps are operated by milled nuts 30 mounted on pins orbolts 31 secured or mounted in the end portions of the frame members 2 1- and 25.
The upper edge of the front wall it of the bag il and the front edge of the to vvall l2 thereof are secured to a strip 31. 'lll('ll extends longitudinally of the bag and brace rods 33 are preferably arranged in the manner shown in Fig, I of the drawing. and the e rods serve to suJport the strip 32 in proper position. to hold the Front wall H- of the bag it) in a taut or drawn posh lion. and by a"i|is'ting the frame member 2-1 and 23 vertieali r on the frame members QT the bark all 11 of the bag may he also drawn aml held in a taut position.
The central frame memher 24 of the frame 23 is enlarged centrally thereof as shown at I36 an l provided with a door 37 which normally (loses an opening in the enlargement 536 of the frame 24. and this tltPOI' PH'ITliiIS of the phu'rment of the expioaire medium employed in apparatus of this if so in proper position on a. tlanh gnu, of any himl or Class. sueh as USHHllIV employed in apparatus of this ines, and a tripod or other support may he eonneeted with a. her-per 39 on the enlargement 36 of the frame member 2 1 for supporting the ha; and the frammrm'lt thereof in a predetermined 'iosition relative to a floor or in a. room or eompartnwnt.
It will he apparent that by loosening the. winged nuts 30. the frame memhera .24 and '33 may he dropped downwardly an-.l the frame memhera 2T mover into a horizontal position as shown in Fig. 1 of the draw ing, and the hraee rods 3 may be detached from the keepers 34- antl the. strip 32 IIli'iCQ-il into juxtaposit on to the top frame. meniher "25 as indicated in dotted lines in Fin. 3. and the hraee ItNlQ 33 folded into an apgu'oximate parallel position to SiliKl strip.
