DISPLAY DEVICE FOR WALKING FIGURES,
Application filed December 22. 1920. Serial No. 432,514.
T 0 all whom it may 007106771! Be it known that l, ISAAC A. Bowman, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Display Device for alking Figures, of which the following is a description.
My invention while intended more particularly for exhibiting walking dolls in a wa to illustrate the movements of walking is useful for exhibiting other figures having pivotally mounted legs.
The general object of my invention is to provide a stand of simple construction with 1 means for supporting the toy and carrying the same forwardly as well as means to be engaged by the feet of the toy for tripping or holding the same momentarily to simulate the walking movement as the toy moves forwardly.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, it being understood that the drawing is merelyillustrative of one example of the invention.

Figure 2 is a vertical section of a display device embodying my invention with a series of figures mounted therein.
In carrying out my invention in accordance with the illustrated example a platform' 10 is provided rigidly supported by suitable means, there being illustrated posts 11 beneath said platform and rising from a suitable base 12.
A vertical shaft 13 is centrally disposed on the base 12 which turns at its lower end in. an upright bearing 13 The shaft is shown as passing through a. sleeve 14-. Paid sleeve may be fixedly supported by anysuitable means, it being shown asrigid with brackets 14 in fixed relation to bearing 13' 7 On the shaft 13 at the upper end is secured a revolving structure whichmay, as shown, he in the form of a dis: presenting radial arms 15", said disk resting on a shoulder produced by the reduced upper end of the shaft 13 and being held to said shaft by a nut 16. c
In the present device the platform 10 is of annular form. outside of and in substantially the same plane as the carrier disk 15.
The figures A are each secured by a clamp 18 here shown as embracing the torsoof the play on the pivots 18 18 The lever 17 is fulcrumed between its ends as at 17 to the outer end of an arm 15, said lever being offset above the fulcrum to dispose the upper portion at a side of the clamp 18 and at the inner side of figure A carried by the clamp. A means is provided to act on the lever 17 whereby to rock the same on its fulcrum and thereby tilt the figure A laterally to impose the weight of the figure alternately on the respective legs, to thus cause engagement of the legs with the platform 10. lhe illustrated means for actuating the lever 17 consists of a zig-zag-slot 19 in the base 12 in which slot a swivelled ball 19 on the lower end of the lever travels. The zig-zag bends of the slot 19 alternately carry the ball 17 into paths to tilt the lever to the right and to the left to throw alternately the right leg and left leg into engagement with the platform 10.
It will readily be understood that the shaft 13 may be driven by any suitable means, there being shown for the purpose an electric motor 20 from a pulley 20 on the shaft of which motor a belt 21 runs over a pulley 22 on a shaft 23 turning in the brack ets 14:, said shaft having a worm 2 1 in mesh with a worm wheel 25 on shaft 13 between the sleeve 14 and the bearing 13.
I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, 1 do not limit myself strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated, since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus describedmy invention, I claim:
1. A devicefor displaying walking figures comprising a platform, means to support a figure above said platform, so that the feet of the figure may contact with the platform,
. means to carry the supported figure forterna-tely of the feet of the figure with the said plattorin to alternately retard the respective feet as the figure moves forwardly.
A display device for Walking figures, Comprising a carrier, means on the carrier to support the figure to be (lisplayed, and means to tilt the holding means hrterzrlly and alternately impose the weight oi the figure on the respective legs as the carrier moves the figure forwardly; together with a platform to he engaged alternately by the legs in tilting.
3. A display device for Walking figures, comprising a platform, a revolvlng' carrier,
levers on the carrier, means on the "levers above the platform to support the figures to be displayed, and means to rock the levers as they move forwardly with the carrier to thereby tilt the figures f0]? alteri'iately engaging the legs thereof.
