Beit known that 1ALFR1ED SGHULTE, a citizen Aof Germany, residing at Velbert, Rhenish Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and usefulL Improvementsin Locks (for which I have iiledapplications y.for patent in Germany, June 23, 1919; Netherlands, June 12, 1920; England,'J une 30, 1920,) and of` which the *followingv isa specication.- y l, p v.
My invention relates to a latch-lock the latch-boltof which serves simultaneously as a lock-bolt the same beingeapable of being` advanced beyond its latchingv position into a locking position. The-,main object ofmy;
invention istoraise the safety of` a lock or this kind by the combination withit of two kcylinderor barrel-locks withtumblerand setting-pins, and of a vspecial tumbler for theylatch-bolt in such a manner that the latclrbolt can be advanced from itslatch# ingr position into its locking` p'ositionand vice versa only by ineansof the Cylinder? locks which are operable each yfrom onevjside of, the door, whereas its retraction from the latching position intothe lock-casing may be yeffected by the cylinder-locks aswell as by a 'handle arranged at the'innersiile of the door.. By this combinatioii an absolute safety. against unauthorized opening'f-ifrom both sidesot the door is afforded while the lock itself is verysimple in construction'.
To more sim lili m f combined lock l ar-y pling,` a common driving member alternately with either of the two cylinder-locks are it is possibleto position one of the cylinder,- locks wholly or partly within the casing of the latchlocln `One embodiment ofthel invention is shown by way oi examplein the annexed drawing,
wherein: i f i Fig'. 1A shows the lockwithr the cover jremoved and with the latch-belt withdrawn intoV the easing,
Fig. 2 shows the lock iny its latching position, Fig. 3 is' a transverse AeBinFigQ, f Fig. 1T' is a longitudinal section on the line C-'D in Fig. 2, v

The b ox'like the flange-"b and' a plate .c fastened. on the tance' from the bottomiby means of suitable boltsfnot shown onthe'drawing. e isthe klatch-bolt .which servesfslmultaneouslygas a rlatch-bolt-atfits rear end'sliding on thebot- 6o casing a of the lock comprises .bottomof the casing w whichfis closed by-l-rr i,
meansof. the lcover d heldyatv the proper distomyof the lock by meansy olf a iap -fbenthfr up at right angles: A spring g acting on the rear-'endet the .latch-bolt e tends to `hold kthe same in its latchi'ng.=position,` that is to press lit alwaysforward "into this position.
"lhe latch-bolt .however is capable oi ybeing advanced beyoi'idits latching position linto 1v a locking position,wherein it abuts against the iange of the casing. To limit the for ward nxovement of 4thedatch"bolt atlth'eI latching position and to secure it in the ad` vant-ed or locking` position, .atuinbler 1I pivf oted at one end on a stationarypin his pros vided-which tumbler hasia springc prlessf ing against the upper wall of the ca singand at its "other end and 0n its lower` edge :has two vlugs `Zand/m one of which engages bef, tween twoy upwardly converging ls topsfa7 0 mounted on the bolt e. The tumbler .lug Z which secures the `latch-bolt inI its locking positienlFgg) is so formed that inco-y acting-with the stopsa, o it prevents motion of the bolt ein both directions, while the second tumblery lug m has suchv a ormtha-t-" y it prevents movement `of the latch-bolt past its latching position (Fig. 2) but allows the latch-bolt to be withdrawn into lthe casingal (Fig, 1),. thestop non the bolt c owingto the tumblerl lugrm beingA bevelled on one side being,` capable of lifting thetumbler on're-` one,p, can be operated from linsidey and the other, q,*from' outside. theidoor. 'The formery one, p, which is situated the nearer p i to thev front end of the lock extends into latch-bolt @has a suitable gap e1 in which moves a key-bit-like driving pawl s fas' the casing a through a hole in the bottom of the latter and' is fastened by being screwed at i on to the bottom of the lock casing a or on to the 'lock .platel c. The
lz' vistirstoft all released andtlien vthelatcli iS .shot forward to its locking position or f from this back to its latching position orY iinally retracted into the lock casing-a.
The second lcylinder-lock g whichv is arranged farther back, that is, is offset with respect to the first lone p, is inserted from the outside ofy the door into a hole in the sameland is held in place, for example, by
being screwed tothe lock 4cover el. LThe inner or rotary cylinder of this second cylinder-.lock g' is'also coupled to a key-bit- Vlike driving pawl fv. which is rotatably mounted `in the lock cover cl, the two kstops n, o .onv the Vlatch-bolt e serving as bolt- 4'stops engaging said second driving pawl o so that, when the latter *is turned by means of the cylinder-lock g, the latch-bolt, aiter releasingo theV tumbler' z', can also be advanced from its latching position to` the locking position and Vvice versa and iinally withdrawn intoy the lock casing.
.ln the bottom of the lock casing t there is, turnablymounted a handle orv knob w with which is connected a driving pawl or lever acting on the liap f of the latchbolt e only. By turning the knob w the latch-bolt may be Withdrawn from its latching position into the lock-casing, but owing to the. driving pawl m being una-ble to act upon thetumbler z' it is `opuite impossible to retract the bolt e from its locking position by means of the handle w.
