BOTTLE CLOSURIIE.
Application led June 23, 1920. Serial No. 391,()5L
To aZZ whom t may concern:
' Be it known that l, UTAKIOHI KAWASAKI,
a subject of thevEmperor of Japan, resid-- the closure said closure being formed of rubber o'r some other similar material and arranged so that when pressure is applied thereto withV the fingers of the hand the closure will open on one side and upon release of pressure will spring back into closed position and seal the. bottle..
A further object of the invention is to provide a closure which may be operated to open and seal a bottle or the likewithout necessitating touching the mouth of the bottle with the ingers of the hands, Whereby a highly sanitary closure is provided.
The invention possessesl other advantages and features, some of which, with the foregoing, will be set forth at length. inthe following description wherein I shall outline in full that form of the invention which I have selected for illustration in the drawings accompanying and forming a part of v the present speclcation. ln said drawings,
' claimsv may be embodied in a plurality of I have shown one form of .the construction of my invention, but it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to such form, since the invention as expressed in the forms.
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bottle with my improved closure mounted thereon and showingthe closure held open.
Figure 2 isa vertical sectional view taken through the closure showing the closure as when sealing the bottle. v v i Figure 3 is afront elevation -of the closure.
Figure 4 Yis a top showing it applied to a bottle.
lln the present 'embodiment of the inven-vy plan view of the closure Ation the closure is in the form of .a flanged -cap formed of one piece of rubber or other similar material and consists of a body 1 having a depending flange 2. The closure is Aadapted to fitsnugly over the mouth 3 of a bottle or like container 4 as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings.
To facilitate opening the bottle the closure is provided with a segmental opening v5 in one side of the flange 2. The lower edge of the flange and the edge ofthe opening 5 are bordered by integral beads 6 and 7 which are thicker than the rest of the clo sure and strengthen the closurelas a whole. The opening 5 is disposed so that the body or top of the closure on one sidel thereof lies on the top only of the mouth 3 for a distance equal to the length of the opening and closely engages with said mouth-so asto provide an effective sealing of the bottle.
To open the bottle with the. closure applied thereto as shown in'Figure 2, pressure is applied to the top or. body 1 ofthe closure by pressing with the finger downwardly and inwardly from the upper edge of the opening 5 as shown inV Figurel l. This stretches the opening 5 so that said open ving registers with the open mouth of the bottle as shown in Figure 1 andopens the mouthrsuiiciently to permit th`e contents of the bottle to' be poured therefrom.' As soon as the pressure from the fingers is released the body being of 'rubber will spring back into position asshown in Figure 2 and seal thevbottle. lBy having the lower edge of the flange 2v and edge ofthe opening 5 provided with the beads 61 and 7, these portions are less elastic than the other portions of the closure and will snugly embrace the4 that a bottle where contacted therewith so tight seal is insured. Y
The invention consists inthe provision of an elastic closure for bottles,- jars andA the like receptacles, wherein the closure is con? structed so that by stretching the.- material thereof at a certain point said closure will open sufliciently to permit the contents of the bottle toibe removed therefrom and upon release of the pressure said closure Willquickly spring back into sealing positio l claim y 1. A closure for bottles comprising a Banged one-piece cover formed of elastic materialv and provided with an imperforate top and a discharge opening formed in the flange thereof, said opening being brought into position to provide for discharge of the contents of a bottle by stretching the cover.
2. A closure for bott-les comprising an elastic body adapted to embrace and sealthe mouth of a bottle and having an opening therein normally disposing out of registration with the mouth of the bottle and lying in a position to one side of the opening in the bottle and which is brought into
